Though I did everything I could to help make Hillary Rodham Clinton our first Madam President, it just didn’t happen. I was one of Hillary’s 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling. I campaigned for her, met her, donated to her and cheered her on as one woman to another. I was certain the time had come for a female President and I felt that no one was better qualified than Hillary Rodham Clinton. I still feel that way.
Whether she ever again runs for President, I will always be a Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter. I know she has many haters out there, but they only make me love her more. I’m stubborn like that. So here are 10 reasons why I am still very proud to have supported Hillary Rodham Clinton and continue to support her in her role now as our 67th Secretary of State.
-Hillary Rodham Clinton is an intelligent woman who says what she thinks, even when it gets her in hot water. I like a woman who will speak her mind.
-Hillary Rodham Clinton was the first woman ever elected to the New York Senate. For every person that voted for her because her name was Clinton, just as many voted against her for the same reason. She was a Senator for two terms.
-Hillary Rodham Clinton has been a supporter and advocate for the rights of women and children around the world. She is never a wall flower when it comes to standing up for what she believes.
-Hillary Rodham Clinton is aggressive in going after what she wants. When women are aggressive they are often referred to by the slang word for a female dog. She ignores the obvious double standards that are set for men and women and does not apologize for being aggressive when necessary.
-When Hillary Rodham Clinton shakes your hand, she looks you right in the eyes, and she shakes hands like she means it. No limp, three fingered hand shakes from Hillary. When I shook her hand, I knew I was shaking hands with one of the most powerful women in the world.
-When Hillary Rodham Clinton lost the Presidential primary (which forever changed me from a Democrat to an Independent), she gave one of the best “concession” speeches I have ever heard. She did not apologize for wanting to be President and she acknowledged the millions of voters who supported her. Though some people wanted her to be more conciliatory to Obama during her speech, she maintained her dignity and went out her own way. You can see her speech by clicking here.
-Despite losing to Obama during a heated primary; when he won the Presidential election and called on her to be the new Secretary of State, Hillary answered the call. Her willingness to do what was best for our country, and to become only the third woman to be Secretary of State, was a great benefit to the U.S.A. Though she has ruffled a few feathers, she is well received, respected and admired around the world.
-Hillary Rodham Clinton represents the leadership and resiliency that people around the world look to when they look at America. She stands up for us, without walking over them. You can find her stepping up to call China out on their human rights violations, and you can also find her comforting AIDS victim’s in Kenya. She is not afraid to take a stand.
-Despite being one tough cookie, when it comes to her daughter Chelsea, Hillary Rodham Clinton turns to mush. You can see the love and pride for her daughter in Hillary’s eyes when she talks about her. She proves that you can be a kick ass, take no prisoners kind of woman and still be a great mom.
-I can look back at past votes I have cast, and regret them (very few). However, I will always be proud of casting the vote to give Hillary Rodham Clinton a chance to be our first female President. When I was a little girl in the 1970’s, I wasn’t even allowed to play the trumpet in elementary school, because the school only had two trumpets available, and those had to go to the boys. We have come a very long way since then, thankfully.
