Welcome back my peeps! After a well deserved break from Teen Mom we are back to where it all started, MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. In anticipation for the show, I got all my supplies, large amounts of wine,a straw, and lots of towels for when I throw things at the TV. So lets get right down to it.
Last night we met Brooke and Cody, who were engaged for 2months but 19 weeks pregnant, you can do the math. Brooke is a self professed tomboy who loves race cars and Cody….Well Cody may need some coaxing, shall we say, in the motivation department.
Brooke was 16 and had been in a relationship with Cody when she found out she was pregnant. Brooke was also lucky in the fact that she had a support system in her parents, unlike the last group of swamp people. Brooke and Cody decide to get married and have a quickie race track themed wedding and try to keep their life as normal as possible. Brooke and Cody both need to try and finish school and then Cody will hopefully be getting a job because Brooke’s parent have told them that they will no longer support them after the wedding.
Young marriages seem to be a pattern in Brooke’s family and we are told that her parents were married young, her grandparents married young and so on, you get the drift. Her family takes it in stride and seem at this point to support Brooke, even going so far as to let Cody move into Brooke’s room before the wedding. Hey no use is crying over spilled milk at this time right.
I get it, it’s called a vicious cycle, but you know cycles can be broken right. I mean there are other options besides getting preggers and married. Brooke’s mom Misty may have shown her how to put a condom on a cucumber but did she ever tell her that marriage was not the only solution to pregnancy. Just askin’
Brooke appears to be a good student and wants to finish school after she has the baby. She meets with a group of girls who have also had baby’s while finishing school. Brooke just takes it in stride and this is the first time I wonder if she really knows what is in store for her.
Cody,oh Cody this is going to be the wake up call of your life. Cody’s not really taking the whole finishing school thing as serious as Brooke. It’s too hard for him to get up and go to school, it’s too much work to finish assignments and homework. You know what’s not hard for Cody…..Playing video games and watching football. Well that’s prolly not going to help you with changing poopy diapers or waking up in the middle of the night big guy. You know what will help you? Finishing school and getting a job.
Yes, Cody also made me want to hurl a glass at him when the whole GED conversation came up. See that job at the QuickMart isn’t going to be there forever so maybe Brooke should just suck it up and leave school. When he and Brooke talked about the whole school/job thing and he told her she could just get her GED, I started to get annoyed. Yes, I know they need the money, but I also know this 16 year old girl wants to graduated with her class and Cody is making it difficult for her. Yup, glass to the melon kid.
Not everything about Cody is bad. He could have peaced out a.s.a.p., but he manned up and took on the responsibility of a family. I just wonder if he realizes how much of a responsibility it is going to be. This responsibility becomes crystal clear when they look at barns. The difference between doing chores at to pay your way and paying a mortgage with money is HUGE. Reality is a beyotch kids.
So we have met our first couple of 16 and pregnant, and I have to say, they were better than I expected. Now don’t go thinking that this show is going to be all happy endings and roses, we still have more teens to meet and this is MTV.
