One of the infields of the baseball diamonds (17th and Carolina) is temporarily closed. When we last saw the 17th street diamond, the infield was all dirt, unlike the one at 18th Street. This was a picture of the diamond just a week ago, and the way that it looks today.
While reworking the infield is inconvenient to a lot of people, it is also very necessary. I grew up playing at Moscone Center, Hamilton Playground, and Kezar, and I know that having a smooth infield is very important not only for great play, but safety. After inspecting the infield a couple of weeks ago, I was very happy to see that the groundskeeper is taking care of this. A bad hop can lead to a lot of bad consequences.
Since the Giants have already won the World Series, its time to tone it down for the winter anyways.
