Buying a car is an important investment in anyones life. You have to make sure that that car you buy is the right car for you, that it is the right price for you, and that it will keep you happy for a long time. So how do you make a decision on buying a car?
I have had Fords before, and while they have always been good cars, they have never been exceptional cars, and the standard of them also seemed to be inferior to my friends import cars like the Civics and Camry. The time had come for me to replace my truck. I needed something with much better gas mileage and more room for my family (I only had a single cab pickup) I looked at the usual suspects, Civic, Corolla, Mazda 3 but I was not really all that impressed with them. As I was getting tired walking around one of the many car lots, I noticed a little black car that was sitting there gleaming. I walked closer and noticed it was a Ford and doubts immediately entered my mind but i was running out of options.
Ford has done a lot to improve it’s image over the past few years and they have made some pretty significant changes to the styling of their vehicles. The one design element that immediately caught my eye on on the Focus was the shiny chrome grill that screamed look at me. Still doubts entered my mind as I could only think about what the focus used to be, a boy racer car! Back when the the focus was launched it became a hit with the ricer crowd, cheap to buy, easy to maintain and easy to upgrade. However, this Focus looked different, more refined than previous versions of the car!
I started to take a closer look at the Focus. The front end of this Focus is just beautiful to look at! The grill, the lines of the hood, the way that the headlights follow the lines of the hood, it was beautiful! Walk around the side of the car and he gorgeous lines follow through all the way to the back of the vehicle. On the SES version there are chrome inserts at the front of the car just behind the fenders, there is a better exhaust for better performance (yes I was thinking ricer at this time) there are also sway bars installed on the SES for better handling and stability! The Alloy wheels were veyr nice to look at too! Overall the outside of the car was pretty impressive! What about the interior?
I opened the door and sat in the car and was immediately surprised. There are plush leather seats, a two tone dash a lcd display and a very cool looking dashboard, the car i have also has a sunroof. The seats were incredibly comfortable, the driving position was really good and you can make countless adjustments to seat positioning and steering wheel positions to make it perfect. Everything on the dash was within easy reach not that it mattered though, because there are controls for just about everything on the steering wheel, including SYNC.
SYNC is ford proprietary in car voice recognition software that allows you to connect your ipod/iphone via USB and control it by using voice commands. You can also connect devices via bluetooth and use the voice commands too! I wanted to try it and within a couple of minutes, i had my phone connected via bluetooth. I pressed the voice activate button on the steering wheel and was prompted to say my command. “Call Home” I said and the system kicked into the high gear and in just a few seconds the car was accessing my phone and was placing the call. The sound comes though the car speakers and the microphone is located in the auto dimming rear view mirror! Very impressive! Next i tried the ipod. “Play Brett’s Playlist” immediately the system was playing my favorite tunes! SYNC is very impressive. Another quick glance around the interior I noticed, electric, heated mirrors, and electric sunroof, power window and locks and ample storage space. The trunk on the car is huge, and there is plenty of room for your stuff back there.
How does it drive? Very well. I was skeptical at first when i heard that it had only a 2.0, 4 cylinder engine for it’s power supply. The car is zippy around town, fast off the mark, quick, brisk acceleration gets you where you need to go. The Engine is a little noisier than I was used to because it is a 4 cylinder, but at cruising speed it is dead quiet. The ride quality is excellent and you could easily think you are driving a much bigger, more expensive vehicle, Handling is sharp and it corners very well with little to no roll! No doubt this is due to the sway bars. Gas mileage is where this car comes into it’s own. The window sticker showed 33 highway and 28 city. I have been consistently getting 39mpg on the highway travelling at 70mph and easily 33 mpg around town! The amount of gas money i have saved since owning this car is incredible! The gear changes are smooth and are hardly noticable! Over this car drives well! Very well!
For the money I do not think you can go wrong with this little gem from Ford. The Focus is an outstanding vehicle that will be putting the competition to the gun!
