If you’re looking for a special present, or just something nice for yourself, you can’t do better than to check out the many fine art and craft shows in the Metropolitan Detroit area. Wherever you live in Southeast Michigan there’s sure to be a show or sale to your taste. Here are a few of the best. Be sure to keep a close eye on the dates, though — most operate only on weekends, and some of them are only open for one or two days.

The Global Gifts and Crafts Shop at the First Baptist Church of Birmingham, 300 Willits, is open through December 21. They’re open Wednesday through Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, and on Saturdays from 11 am to 4 pm. 248-644-0550.
Earthy Treasures is the name of Pewabic Pottery’s 2010 Holiday Invitational, and it features work from more than 100 ceramic artists. It runs through December 30, and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm, and on Sunday from noon to 6 pm. On December 24th it is open from 10 am to 2 pm, and is closed Christmas day. The Northville Art House Holiday Art Market, at 215 W. Cady, Northville, runs through December 11. It is open 2 to 5 pm on Wednesdays through Saturday, and from 1 to 9 pm on December 3. 248-344-0497. www.northvillearts.org.
Opening the Weekend of December 3:
The Birmingham Winter Market is a German-style outdoor holiday market featuring the work of local artisans, as well as a good selection of holiday greens. It’s located at Shain Park, at Henrietta and Martin, in downtown Birmingham. The 35th Annual Oakland Community College Royal Oak Campus Potters Market, at the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Hall, 876 Horace Brown Drive, Madison Heights will feature such items as ornaments, teapots, birdhouses, soap dispensers, and handcrafted sculptures. More than 135 potters are participating this year.They’re open from 10 am to 8 pm December 3, from 10 am to 6 pm December 4, and from 10 am to 5 pm December 5. The South Lake High School Band Boosters 22nd Annual Craft Show will be held at South Lake High School, 21900 E. Nine Mile Road, St. Clair Shores. It will be held on December 4th from 10 am to 4 pm. There is a $2 admission charge; those aged 55 and older are $1. 586-929-8711.

The Grosse Ile Historical Society Holiday Gift Boutique will be held at the Grosses Ile Customs House, 25020 East River, Grosse Ile.
