Tis the season to get in the holiday spirit in and around Chester County! Lucky for you, there are many things to do to get you in the spirit and have some good family fun. Santa is waiting for you and your smiling (or crying) kids at Exton Square Mall. His hours vary, but he is there Monday through Saturday from 10am-9pm and Sunday 11am-6pm. Starting December 5th, he will be there Sundays at 10am. He is even there on Christmas Eve, but only until 5, because, well, he has a busy night ahead.
If you plan your mall trip just right, you may even catch some live holiday performances. Check the website for a full list, but my personal favorite is the Chester County Concert Band. They perform on December 15, 2010 at 7pm outside Boscov’s. They are a fun-loving bunch who perform great holiday classics. The concert lasts about an hour and is sure to get you in the spirit. www.extonsquare.com
If you are looking for Santa to shake things up a little, catch him arrive by helicopter at the American Helicopter Museum on December 18, 2010. The event runs from 11 am – 1:30 pm. The cost of the event is $10 which includes a photo with Santa, refreshments and holiday activities. www.helicoptermuseum.org
You could also go more traditional and take a scenic train ride with Santa and his friends on the West Chester Railroad Santa Express. This event only runs on the weekends and tickets are needed. It’s a fantastic event, and very festive. www.westchesterrr.net
If helicopters and trains aren’t enough, you can see Santa at the Whiteland Towne Center and take a carriage ride with him, FOR FREE! He will be there November 27, December 4th, 11th, and 18th. The event runs from 11am-2pm. There is free hot chocolate and a gift for all riders! (Photos aren’t included, so bring your camera!)
Near the Whiteland Towne Center is the beautiful Waterloo Gardens which is always decorated festively for Christmas. Santa arrives at Waterloo (Devon and Exton) on November 26, 2010. His reindeer will also make an appearance on December 3, from 6-8pm and on December 5 from 10am-noon.
The borough of West Chester also holds their annual Old Fashioned Christmas parade in December, on Friday, the 3rd. The parade starts at 7:30 p.m., but for a good seat arrive early. www.westchesterbid.com
Malvern also has their Victorian Christmas event on December 3, 2010 from 6-8:30pm. You can often take a carriage ride and catch a parade, as well! This year, Harry Hairston from NBC will be there for the tree lighting. This event is rain, shine, or snow!
Whatever you do to get you in the spirit this season, enjoy every minute and the chance to make a new memory or tradition.
