The 2010 NFL is breaking into the home stretch as we see the return of Thursday football and teams preparing for their playoff push. Take a look at our predictions for Week 10 of the 2010 NFL season to see how things will shape up.
Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons
Both the Falcons and Ravens are coming into this game with little rest after hard fought wins against other physical teams. These two teams like to use the dominant running game to open the passing lanes for their second year quarterbacks. The Falcons home field advantage will give them the edge they need to earn another victory and strengthen their hold on the best record in the NFC.
Prediction – Falcons 27 Ravens 21
Detroit Lions at Buffalo Bills
The Lions will be trying to bounce back from a heart breaking loss to the New York Jets and will be visiting a Buffalo Bills team looking for their first win. The Lions will be going without their star quarterback Matt Stafford and will need to find a way to generate some offensive output. The Bills have been struggling all season but have shown enough fight to let their fans know they have not given up. Expect the Bills to become the last NFL team to finally earn their first win of the 2010 Season.
Prediction – Bills 28 Lions 10
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Texans and Jaguars are both sitting on a .500 record and in need of a win if they want to keep pace with the AFC South division leaders. Both teams feature a dominant running game that is aided by a passing attack. If the Texans secondary is able to hold the Jaguar wide receiver in check, they should be able to sneak out of Florida with a much needed win. The key to this game will be the performance of Jaguars tight end Mercedes Lewis and how well he opens the middle.
Prediction – Texans 31 Jaguars 10
Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
The Titans will be ready to unleash their new deep threat against a Dolphins team that suffered their first road loss of the 2010 season. The Titans are eager to continue their push for the playoffs and will utilized newly acquired Randy Moss against a defense that has shown their inability to stop the big play. The Dolphins have continued to struggle in front of the home crowd and this game will be no exception as they earn another loss in a close fought game.
Prediction – Titans 21 Dolphins 17
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
The Vikings were able to snatch victory from the Cardinals last week thanks to the resurrection of Brett Favre. Will he be able to keep it up this week against a Bears team eager for a win? The Bears are coming off a bye week and will have hoped to fix their offensive line woes that have left their start quarterback, Jay Cutler, open to too many hits. If both quarterbacks can stay upright, this should be an explosive game.
Prediction – Vikings 28 Bears 24
New York Jets at Cleveland Browns
The Jets snuck out of Detroit with a win and will be traveling to Ohio to take on a Browns team that has earned two tough wins over the New England Patriots and the New Orleans Saints. The Jets will need to find consistency on offense if they are going to take on a underrated Browns defense. Expect the Browns to give the Jets defense a heavy dose of Peyton Hillis and try to beat them at their own game.
Prediction – Jets 21 Browns 14
Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts
The Bengals continue to trend in the wrong direction after they earned their sixth loss of the season. They will be going up against a Colts team who is depleted at the wide receiver position and coming off a tough loss to the Eagles. The Bengals will need to find a way to get back to their roots of a physical presence on the field if they are going to right the ship. The Colts always seem to find a way and they should have no problem scoring points against a soft Bengals defense.
Prediction – Colts 31 Bengals 17
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers lost a tough one last week to the Falcons and will be ready to rebound against a Panthers team that is near the bottom in terms of offensive production. The Panthers are going to have a tough time moving the ball against a Buccaneers defense that has shown the ability to create turnovers and leads the NFL with 14 interceptions.
Prediction– Buccaneers 24 Panthers 3
Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
The Chiefs will be out to prove that the loss to the Raiders last week was a minor setback in their quest to earn an unexpected division title. The Broncos are hoping to revert their losing ways and find a way to right this ship before the season comes to a close. The Chiefs two-headed backfield should provide their offensive enough of a balance to open up the passing lanes for Matt Cassel.
Prediction – Chiefs 28 Broncos 21
Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals
The Seahawks looked absolutely atrocious last week in their sound defeat by the Giants while the Cardinals will be eager to rebound from their difficult loss to the Vikings. The Seahawks need to find a way to end their rollercoaster performances and play consistent football if they want a shot at the NFC West title. The Cardinals can keep their name in the mix if they are able to put together a decent offensive game plan against a questionable Seahawks defense.
Prediction – Seahawks 31 Cardinals 30
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants
The Cowboys were going nowhere fast and that prompted Jerry Jones to make a change mid-season while their NFC East rival is fresh off a dominant victory over the Seahawks. The Cowboys will need to find a way to motivate their players to give more than quarter of effort. The Giants front seven is going to be ready to harass the Cowboys quarterback and turn it into another long day for the Cowboy faithful.
Prediction – Giants 27 Cowboys 10
St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers
In another yawner between two NFC West foes, the Rams will travel to San Francisco to see if the 49ers can help make the race for a division title even tighter. The Rams will need to rely upon mistake free football and their underrated defense to shut down a 49ers team that is still seeking their identity on offense. The Rams will do a better job of protecting the ball and help them maintain a share of the division title for one more week.
Prediction – Rams 17 49ers 10
New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Patriots will be ready to right their ship after a shocking defeat to the Browns last week. Now they will need to take on a Steelers team that showed on Monday night that they are still one of the elite in the AFC. The Patriots will need to find a way to slow down the potent offense of Pittsburgh if they are going to come away with a win. The problem is the Steelers are now balanced with Big Ben back in the fold and Rashard Mendenhall being used like he is supposed to. One thing to remember is that the Patriots rarely lose two in a row under their head coach.
Prediction – Patriots 24 Steelers 17
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins
The Monday Night event is going to be a rematch of the week 4 match where the Redskins earned a close win over the Eagles. This time the Eagles seem to be in a better position with a more mature and poised Michael Vick at the helm. The Redskins are trying to bounce back after a bye week and will need to earn a win if they want to stay in the race for the NFL playoffs. The Redskins offense has been struggling as of late and will need to utilize their running game if they want to have a chance to win on Monday night.
Prediction – Eagles 24 Redskins 17
