Even though it is early in the season, there are intriguing trends emerging this 2010 NFL season. We have a few surprise teams with a 2 – 0 record and the same could be said for teams like the Minnesota Vikings or the Dallas Cowboys who are 0 – 2.
Through the first two weeks of the season, we have compiled a decent 20 – 11 record. Now here are the predictions for Week 3 of the 2010 NFL Season.
Cincinnati Bengals at Carolina Panthers
The Bengals’ defense came to life last week and looked a lot like the impressive unit we saw in 2009 when they forced the Ravens’ into throwing four interceptions. The Panthers need to make the chance at the quarterback position if they are going to have any success this year. The Panthers may play a little better at home but are going to have a hard time overcoming the Bengals’ strengths.
Prediction – Cincinnati 17 Carolina 3
Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints
The Falcons’ offense showed up last week and looked like one of the best in the NFL when they racked up 41 points on the Cardinals. Quarterback Matt Ryan is ready to prove he can lead the Falcons in 2010. On the opposite side the Saints will be coming off a short week when they play host to the Falcons. The Saints’ defense is going to be tested by this Falcons defense but will do enough to earn a win.
Prediction – New Orleans 24 Atlanta 21
Pittsburgh Steelers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
You would think the Steelers are in trouble at the quarterback spot and are counting the days down until Ben Roethlisberger. Instead they are relying upon their dominant defense to help carry them until Big Ben’s return. The Buccaneers are the surprise of this young 2010 NFL season and have found a way to win their first two games. Their luck runs out when they face the formidable Steelers.
Prediction – Pittsburgh 13 Tampa Bay 7
Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
Though the Browns and Ravens defense did not allow an offense touchdown last week, both teams did not share the same outcome. The Ravens need to be concerned about the four interceptions thrown by quarterback Joe Flacco. The Browns are hoping for some semblance of a constant offense when they take on their division foe. In the end, the Ravens’ defense is going to take the Browns apart piece by piece.
Prediction – Baltimore 21 Cleveland 7
Tennessee Titans at New York Giants
Even though the Titans had seven turnovers and benched their starting quarterback during the game, they still had a chance against the Steelers last week. Fisher has made the decision to stick with Vince Young this week against a Giants’ defense that gave up over thirty points last week versus the Colts. The other concern for the Giants will be their offense that sputtered at times on Sunday night. The Giants will play better at home and will hand the Titans their second loss of the season.
Prediction – New York 24 Tennessee 17
San Francisco 49ers at Kansas City Chiefs
The surprising Chiefs will be eager to take advantage of a 49ers team that closed out the second week of the NFL season on Monday night against the Saints. The Chiefs’ defense has stepped up and been an instrumental part in each win. The 49ers will be looking to establish their run game to help give quarterback Alex Smith time to throw. The game should be a close one with and will not be decided until the final few minutes of the game.
Prediction – Kansas City 17 San Francisco 14
Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans
The Cowboys are 0 – 2 and in danger of falling behind in the race for the NFC East title. Their offense has sputtered and not been able to close out the big play. The Texans had a nice come from behind win against the Redskins and appear ready to take on their in state rival at home. The Texans offense is going to out produce the Cowboys and will help them get off to a 3 – 0 start.
Prediction – Houston 31 Dallas 24
Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots
The 2010 NFL season for the Bills is fading fast and they need to find a quarterback who can help lead this team. The running game is going to have a hard time against the Patriots’ defense that will be looking to rebound after the loss to the Jets. Tom Brady and company will have their way with the Bills’ defense and score at will.
Prediction – New England 31 Buffalo 10
Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings
The hard luck Lions will travel to Minnesota where they always seem to play the Vikings tough. Fans will get to see two stud running backs, the Vikings’ Adrian Peterson and the Lions’ Jahvid Best, should put on a show for the fans. One of these 0 – 2 teams is going to come away with a victory and you can lean towards the home town as the odds on favorite.
Prediction – Minnesota 17 Detroit 13
Washington Redskins at St. Louis Rams
The Redskins lost a hard breaker to the Texans last week and will need to find a way to win on the road when they travel to face a Rams team that has not been an easy victory. Rookie Sam Bradford is experiencing some growing pains and should take the time to watch the Redskins’ quarterback Donovan McNabb dissects the Rams’ defense.
Prediction – Washington 24 St. Louis 13
Philadelphia Eagles at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Eagles were able to even their record at 1 – 1 with a narrow victory over the Lions with Michael Vick at the helm. While some people are calling it a quarterback controversy, Kevin Kolb will take over when they visit Jacksonville. The Jaguars are still reeling from the smack down placed on them when they traveled out West. The Jaguars will need quarterback David Garrad to play mistake free ball if they are going to win.
Prediction – Philadelphia 28 Jacksonville 17
San Diego Chargers at Seattle Seahawks
The Chargers and the Seahawks finally looked like the teams we expected prior to the start of the 2010 NFL season. The Chargers can manage without their star wideout Vincent Jackson but would have even more potential if he was in the lineup. The Seahawks will need to find a way to stop their opponent on third down if they want to come away with a win. While Seattle is a hard place to play, the Chargers should have the edge when the game is over.
Prediction – San Diego 27 Seattle 20
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins
One thing is for sure, besides Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan and the Dolphins’ linebacker Channing Crowder jawing at each other this week, this game is sure to be a hard hitting affair. Both teams can use a momentum from a win to help push them to the front of the AFC East race. The Dolphins’ offense will need to pick up steam if they are going to be able to come away with a win.
Prediction – New York 21 Miami 17
Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears
This is one of the marquee games of the week and has the potential to be an explosive shootout between the Packers and the Bears. Both Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers are coming off dominating wins where the passing game moved the ball at will. The Bears’ defense will be tested and will need to match the Packers’ intensity if they want to come away with a win. On Monday night we will see Rodgers’ legacy continue to take shape.
Prediction – Green Bay 31 Chicago 28
