The 2010 NFL season has continued to weave its magic with eight of the thirteen games being decided by six points or less. While fans have been graced with competitive football it has been NFL predictions even harder to come by. So far we have compiled a decent 36 -22 record, but there is always room for improvement. Now here are the predictions for Week 4 of the 2010 NFL Season.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo Bills
The Jaguars will enter this game on a high note after knocking off the Indianapolis Colts with a last second field goal. The running game, led by Maurice Jones-Drew, should find more success against a Bills run defense that is ranked dead last in the NFL, allowing 174 yards per game. The Bills offense looked inept last week but should have a chance to change that against a Jaguars’ defense that looks average at best.
Prediction – Bills 17 Jaguars 14
Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers
The Bears look absolutely brutal last week when the New York Giants defense demolished them. But is this the real Bears team or can their offensive line get back together and actually protect the quarterback? The Panthers had a chance to pull out the wins at the New Orleans Saints but came up short. They are going to have a hard time winning a game if they can not improve upon a NFL worst 11.5 points per game.
Prediction – Bears 24 Panthers 14
Kansas City Chiefs at Indianapolis Colts
The Chiefs are coming off a bye week and will be hoping that the can carry over some of the momentum that the have built winning the first three games of the NFL season. They are going to need to have their defense step up because the Colts are going to come in ready to win after being upstaged by the Jaguars. When the Colts get the lead, do not expect them to take the foot off the gas until the game is done.
Prediction – Colts 31 Chiefs 21
Atlanta Falcons at Cleveland Browns
The Falcons have found their running game again, averaging 144.8 yards per game on the ground which is ranked fourth in the NFL. You can attribute part of the Browns success on offense to running back Peyton Hillis who has scored four touchdowns this NFL season, one in every game. The Falcons will come away with a win but it will be hard fought that is going to be decided by who earns the edge in the running game.
Prediction – Falcons 24 Browns 14
Denver Broncos at Baltimore Ravens
Something will have to give when these two teams face each other during Week 5 of the 2010 NFL season The Broncos have the top rated passing attack in the NFL and will look to maintain their 339.5 yards per game when they take on the stingy Ravens defense that leads the NFL with only allowing 119.0 yards per game in the air. The Ravens defense will be too much for the Broncos.
Prediction – Ravens 21 Broncos 13
New York Giants at Houston Texans
The Giants defense is going to enter this game on a high after dismantling the Bears’ explosive offense with ten sacks and forcing two interceptions. They will need this same type of performance when they take on the potent offense of the Texans. The Texans are primed from their easy win over the Raiders and will be ready to use the NFL’s top rated running game to earn the win over the Giants.
Prediction – Texans 31 Giants 17
St. Louis Rams at Detroit Lions
This game will feature the future of the NFL with the likes of Sam Bradford, Jahvid Best, and perhaps Matt Stafford. As of late both offenses have shown they can score points when needed. The only problem is that the Lions have shown they have problems trying to stop the opposing team from scoring. The Lions fight hard each week but the Rams appear to have the better defense and should be able to earn another win this season.
Prediction – Rams 24 Lions 20
Green Bay Packers at Washington Redskins
The Packers know they need to improve their game if they want to be the team to beat in the NFC. They will have a decent test against the Redskins who are coming off the emotionally charged win over a division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL fans will be treated to an aerial show by two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The Packers have enough on the defensive side to make an impact and help win the game.
Prediction – Packers 34 Redskins 27
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals
The Buccaneers find themselves well-rested after their bye week and will be looking for the connection of Josh Freeman and Mike Williams to help spark their offensive unit. They will be facing a Bengals team that is reeling from a lost to their division rival, the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals’ offense looked impressive last week but they were not able to make the stop when needed. Fans should expect to see a defensive stalemate that will be decided by one or two plays.
Prediction – Bengals 17 Buccaneers 10
New Orleans Saints at Arizona Cardinals
The Saints escaped with a narrow win over the Panthers and now can focus on the Cardinals, a team that coughed up 41 points to the San Diego Chargers. The Saints may suffer from some jet lag by travelling out West, but their offense is still capable of putting up a few touchdowns. The problem for the Cardinals is that the quarterback position is starting to become a problem.
Prediction – Saints 24 Cardinals 10
San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders
The Chargers offense came alive last week and was balanced between Mike Tolbert carrying the ball and the Phillip Rivers to Antonio Gates connection. That is a bad sign for the Raiders who saw their defense torn apart by the Houston Texans last week. Until the Raiders can find a decent passing game, their offense is not going to amount to much and it will begin to wear down their defense.
Prediction – Chargers 27 Raiders 20
Tennessee Titans at Dallas Cowboys
The Titans will be looking to jump start their offense, especially their stud back Chris Johnson, when they take on the Cowboys with a better than average defense that has only allowed 83.6 yards per game on the ground. The bigger concern has to be if the Cowboys offense can remain productive after having a bye week off after their first win of the season. The key to this game is going to be the performance of Vince Young in front of the fans who adored him while he played at Texas.
Prediction – Titans 24 Cowboys 20
Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers
The Eagles lost a hard one to the Redskins and an even bigger blow when Michael Vick when down with an injury, they lost their momentum and had little direction. The 49ers, who still are looking for a win, should press the running game behind Frank Gore as they take on a Eagles rushing defense that has allowed over 138 yards per game on the ground. The game should provide some excitement for NFL fans as they get to watch two of the better defenses go head to head in the NFC.
Prediction – 49ers 17 Eagles 14
Minnesota Vikings at New York Jets
On Monday night, fans will get to see two of the more hyped teams in the NFL. The Vikings have looked anything but like the Super Bowl contenders many thought they would be but the Jets have remained true to their roots and appear to be for real in 2010. The outcome of this game is going to come down to quarterbacks and the younger Mark Sanchez has everything going in the right direction. Look for Brett Favre to throw the game away for the Vikings as they fall to 1 – 3.
Prediction – Jets 24 Vikings 10
