2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Houston Texans at Philadelphia Eagles: The Houston Texans’ defense dominated the Tennessee Titans last week. They only allowed the Tennessee Titans 162 total yards and caused 3 interceptions. Their offense also performed great! Matt Schaub threw 2 touchdowns, 1 to Andre Johnson and the other to Joel Dreessen. The Houston Texans’ offense doesn’t really match up well with the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense. Andre Johnson was ejected last week, and will be looking for the ball. Arian Foster should have a good game against the Eagle’s line, but most likely won’t break any huge gains. Michael Vick suffered his first loss as a starter this year to the Chicago Bears. Michael Vick also showed some weakness on the throwing side, throwing his first interception of the year. Luckily, the Texans’ defense was strong last week, but that was against a fairly weak offense. This week, Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy should squeak by Houston’s defenders. The Philadelphia Eagles are the much more explosive and consistent team and should come out on top of the Houston Texans, 31-21.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans: The Jacksonville Jaguars are at the top of their division with a 6-5 record. David Garrard has been a great quarterback, throwing for 17 touchdowns already this year. Maurice Jones Drew has only 4 touchdowns all year, but has been fairly productive getting the ball down the field on the ground. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense is ranked 28th in the league for points, which matches up well with the Tennessee Titans’ offense, which is scoring 23 points per game. Chris Johnson has 970 yards already, but has 9 running touchdowns. His productivity varies from week to week, but his job got tougher with the loss of Vince Young. The Jacksonville Jaguars will have the upper hand on defense this week because of the lacking passing offense in Tennessee, which is ranked 31st in the league. If the Titan’s offensive line was more protective and was able to provide those big blocks as before, the Titans would easily win this game on the ground, but without the passing game to support and the lack of offensive production, the Jaguars will win this game 24-21.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Washington Redskins at New York Giants: The Washington Redskins suffered a sad loss to the Minnesota Vikings last week. Donovan McNabb passed for 211 yards a touchdown and an interceptions. This isn’t bad, but their offense was almost pathetic without Clinton Portis running the ball. The Redskins were only able to muster 20 yards on the ground against Jared Allen and the Vikings’ front line. Their defense was stiff, knocking Adrian Peterson out of the game and allowing Toby Gerhart to rush for 76 yards and a touchdown while keeping Brett Favre to just 172 yards. Their defense is good, but it isn’t a great match for the high-powered New York Giants’ offense. Eli Manning is playing at a high level and Mario Manningham and Kevin Bossare helping him out a lot. Both Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw are productive, but both have some fumbling issues which will benefit the Redskins. These fumbles could cause the game to turn into the favor of the Redskins, but the Giants’ defense steps up when they need it and the New York Giants should win this game, 28-21.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers: The San Francisco 49ers beat the Arizona Cardinals last week, but that doesn’t mean much when both teams are 3-7 going into the game. Troy Smith is still getting used to running this run-first offense, but in the process is making errors that could possibly cost them the game against the high-powered Green Bay Packers defense. Brian Westbrook is productive when he’s not hurt and can run by any defender. Unfortunately for the 49ers and Fantasy Football team owners, Frank Gore broke his hip last week and will be out for the rest of the season. Luckily for the Green Bay Packers, Tramon Williams and Charles Woodson will take advantage of Troy Smith’s passing errors. Clay Matthews is a possible defense MVP of the year and puts fear in the opponents’ eyes. Aaron Rodgers is the all-around offensive player. He can pass the ball to any of his receivers or run the ball. Last week he was the Packer’s leading rusher, running for 53 yards. He was also able to put over 300 yards through the air passing to Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, and James Jones. The Green Bay Packers will take advantage of the 49ers defense and win at home 35-21.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Buffalo Bills at Minnesota Vikings: The Buffalo Bills are the team that is always so close, but yet so far. They could have beat the top-ranked Pittsburg Steelers in overtime, but fell short when Steve Johnson dropped a beautifully thrown ball by Ryan Fitzpatrick in the end-zone to win it. The passing game the Bills have matches up pretty well against the Vikings. Steve Johnson and Fred Jackson were Ryan Fitzpatrick’s main targets last week, but Lee Evans can be an explosive receiver as well. The Bills defense is what is going to hurt them this week if Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart both play. Brett Favre and Leslie Frazier might be able to turn around the team, but it is probably a little too late for playoff hopes. They’ve simplified the playbook and it looks like it worked last week against the Washington Redskins. The Minnesota Vikings should win this game at home 28-24, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bills pulled off a win here.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: New Orleans Saints at Cincinnati Bengals: The New Orleans Saints were able to pull off a victory last week in Dallas. Drew Brees passed for 350 yards and a touchdown. Reggie Bush was supposed to be back last week, but didn’t make an appearance. Julius Jones and Chris Ivory were able to be productive, averaging 5 yards per carry. The Saints’ offense will be no match for the Bengals weak secondary. Marques Colston and Devery Henderson are fast run great routes. The Saints’ defense had a strong performance in the first half, but fell apart in the second half. The Cincinnati Bengals have top-notch players on offense, but can’t seem to put anything together with their banged-up offensive line. Cedric Benson can’t run through a hole if there is no hole to run through and Carson Palmer can’t get the ball out to Chad Ochocinco or Terrell Owens if he only has less than that 2 seconds to throw the ball. This game is screaming a Saints win, 35-24.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs: The last time these two teams met, the Denver Broncos destroyed the Kansas City Chiefs. However, that doesn’t mean the Broncos will win this time. Kyle Orton and the Denver Broncos’ offense is one of the most inconsistent offenses in the league. They are 3rd to last in rushing, which is really hurting this team. Luckily for them, Kyle Orton is having one of his best seasons, averaging 288 yards per game. The Denver Broncos defense does not match up well against the high-powered Kansas City Chiefs offense. The Broncos’ defense is last in the league for points allowed and give up huge plays to opponents. The Chiefs’ offense is probably the second or third most explosive in the league. Matt Cassel has thrown multiple 4-touchdown games this year and Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones are great on the ground. With dependable receivers such as Dwayne Bowe and Verran Tucker, this offense should take advantage of the Broncos horrible defense and win this game 35-21.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions: The Chicago Bears had a hard time beating the Detroit Lions a few weeks ago, and this could be the case again. Jay Cutler is a lot better this year
and hasn’t thrown as many interceptions. When his passing game is on, Matt Forte has an easy day getting big gains on the ground. Julius Peppers has made a huge contribution to this defense and will be looking for Shaun Hill in the backfield. Maurice Morris had a big week last week, averaging 6.1 yards against the Patriots’ tough defense. Shaun Hill is a good quarterback, but lacks arm strength getting the ball down the field. Calvin Johnson doesn’t need to sprint down field before catching the ball because he can catch it short and make huge plays on his own. The Lions are a sleeper team this year that can possibly pull out a victory against a good team if they don’t fall apart. The Bears will win this game 21-20.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Cleveland Browns at Miami Dolphins: The Cleveland Browns are a team that could beat any team in the NFL, especially after beating both the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots. However, they also have those weeks where they lose by a considerable amount or like last week, where they barely pulled off a victory against the Panthers. Peyton Hillis is the huge play maker on the Cleveland Browns and continues to strike fear in the opponents. Jake Delhomme is back on the field for the Browns, but I’m not sure if he is any better than Colt McCoy who has performed exceptionally well for being the quarterback of the Browns. The Miami Dolphins have been struck by injuries and are still finding ways to win. When Chad Henne is on the field, this offense looks completely revamped. Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown are both great running backs that can take the pressure off Drew Bress and Chad Henne when they need it. The Dolphins should win this game at home, 24-17.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers: The Oakland Raiders are a good team, but have issues. Bruce Gradkowski started started last week, and we are still waiting to see if Jason Campbell will be back ahead this week. Darren McFadden is a big threat to the Chargers defense, but they have other weapons. The San Diego Chargers are lighting up their opponents, including a huge win over the Indianapolis Colts last week. Phillip Rivers has been one of the hottest quarterbacks this year and looks threatening against the Raiders defense. They will be able to spread out their aerial attack more this week with the addition of Vincent Jackson while Mike Tolbert and Darren Sproles lead the attack on the ground. The San Diego Chargers will win this game, 28-17.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks: The Carolina Panthers offense is sad at best. Jimmy Clausen is a young quarterback with a lot of potential. Jonathan Stewart returned and averaged 8.2 yards per carry and Mike Goodson is a good back-up for him who is a threat on the ground or through the air. The Seahawks have highs and lows almost on a weekly basis. Matt Hasselbeck has some great days, but has other days where he just can’t get anything done, especially when their running game isn’t productive. The Seahawks win this home game 24-21.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Dallas Cowboys at Indianapolis Colts: The Dallas Cowboys were on a 2-game winning streak until they fell just short of the New Orleans Saints last week. Jon Kitna is getting better each week, but took a small step backwards last week. Miles Austin is a huge threat to any team and Jason Witten is a reliable target that can be dependable. The Cowboys’ defense is finally starting to put it together and figuring things out. The Indianapolis Colts are all banged up and it doesn’t look like it is getting much better for them. Peyton Manning had his worst game since his rookie year, throwing four interceptions. The Colts are still a good team and should win this 27-20.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Atlanta Falcons are on fire after beating the Green Bay Packers last week. Matt Ryan is a true leader for this team and with Michael Turners continuing improvements, this team is a huge threat in this divisional match-up. Roddy White should be able to surge downfield against the Buccaneers’ defense. This match-up isn’t even when it comes to these two teams. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have Josh Freeman and Kellen Winslow for the aerial assault, which will not provide much difficulty for the Falcons. LeGerrate Blount is a good running back, but the Falcons’ ability to close the holes will provide trouble for him. The Atlanta Falcons soar against the Buccaneers 31-20.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: St. Louis Rams at Arizona Cardinals: The St. Louis Rams squeezed by the Denver Broncos last week. Sam Bradford is making a great motion for the rookie of the year, posting his first 300 yard game last week. He has taken over this offense and can get the ball to his receivers. Steven Jackson is a great running back who is getting a ton of help from Sam Bradfords’ passing abilities. The Arizona Cardinals looked pathetic last week, and is still having troubles in the quarterback and running back positions, which are both needed to have any type of offensive threat. Derek Anderson has had a few decent games this year, but can’t do much if their running game nets 13 yards in the game. This offense is no match-up against any real team and the St. Louis Rams should win this 24-10.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Pittsburg Steelers at Baltimore Ravens: The Pittsburg Steelers got extremely lucky last week, slipping by the Buffalo Bills in overtime. Ben Roethlisberger is the anchor of this team, and when he doesn’t throw well, the team doesn’t do well. Rashard Mendenhall is having a good season with the passing help. The Baltimore Ravens are tied at the top of their division with the Pittsburg Steelers. This game could decide which team goes to the playoffs. Joe Flacco has been a consistent quarterback this year and the Ravens defense is one of the most aggressive in the league. The Baltimore Ravens should win this game 24-17 by putting pressure on Big Ben.
2010 NFL Week 13 Picks and Predictions: New York Jets at New England Patriots: This is the match-up of the week. The New York Jets and the New England Patriots are tied for first in their division with a 9-2 record. Mark Sanchez leads this team through the air with his receivers. LaDainian Tomlinson has surprised us all this year putting up some big shows. The New England Patriots started off slow last week, but ended the game with a blowout against the Lions. Tom Brady and Wes Welker are huge threats against any defense and the Patriots defense is strong as well. The Patriots should win this game at home 24-23.
