Week 1 of the NFL brought about many surprise performances from different teams. The Kansas City Chiefs upset the San Diego Chargers and the Houston Texans pretty much dominated the Indianapolis Colts. Here are my predictions for week 2 of the 2010 NFL season.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Buffalo Bills at Green Bay Packers: The Buffalo Bills lost to the Miami Dolphins last week. The put up horrible numbers on the offensive side of the ball against a poor defense. They were only able to acquire 166 yards through the air and 50 yards on the ground. The Green Bay Packers slipped by the Eagles last week. Aaron Rodgers threw for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns. Against the Bill’s weak secondary, Aaron Rodgers and his receivers should be able to pick apart Buffalo’s defense, even without the strong running game of Ryan Grant. Packers should win this game 35-14.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings: The Miami Dolphins skidded by the Bills last week. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams performed well last week. Chad Henne and Brandon Marshall looked like they could be a great potential Quarterback-Receiver pair. The Vikings had a disappointing performance against the New Orleans Saints last week. Brett Favre looked like he hadn’t picked up a ball all offseason and only completed 15 of 27 passes for 171 yards and a single touchdown. With Sidney Rice out, Shiancoe, Camarillo, and Harvin will need to step up and be more dependable for Favre. Even with the offensive complications, the Vikings should still win this game 24-17.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns: The Kansas City Chiefs pulled off the biggest upset of last week. Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones could possibly be the biggest 1-2 punch this year. The Cleveland Browns lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which was one of the worst teams last year. If Jake Delhomme and Joshua Cribbs can hook up for some big gains this week, they could be a huge threat against the Chiefs secondary. Kansas City chiefs wins this week 2 game, 17-10.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys: Both of the games these teams played in last week had a last minute touchdown that was called off. It was a good thing for the Bears, but a bad thing for the Cowboys, who ended up losing to the Washington Redskins. Jay Cutler seemed as though he was back to his years in Denver and threw for 370 yards and 2 touchdowns. Matt Forte wasn’t very productive on the ground, but he had a huge 90 yard touchdown catch and ended up with 150 yards through the air with 2 touchdowns. Tony Romo completed approximately 65 percent of his passes and threw for over 280 yards and a touchdown. This week, both teams will be looking to go through the air again because each team has weakened secondaries. The Dallas Cowboys take this game 17-14.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons: The Arizona Cardinals are definitely not the team they used to be with Kurt Warner and Anquon Boldin. Derek Anderson is a good quarterback, but he isn’t great. Against the Falcon’s strong secondary, Anderson and Fitzgerald are going to have to figure out a way to connect and put some points on the board. Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons were rather disappointing last week. Their defense was able to keep the score low, but their offense was not productive. Matt Ryan threw for 252 yards and 0 touchdowns and Michael Turner only averaged 2.2 yards per carry. The Cardinals take this game 21-14.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers: The Buccaneers one their first game of the season, which is more than what anyone could have expected. Josh Freeman passed for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. This brought their offense together, and the Buccaneers were able to get their ground game going, rushing for over 100 yards. The Panthers couldn’t get anything going right on either side of the ball last week as they lost to the New York Giants. Matt Moore showed potential and completed 14 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. His ability to throw the ball opened up the ground game for DeAngelo Williams to run on the ground. This week, the Panthers are player a weaker opponent and their passing game should be able to open up the ground game for DeAngelo Williams to run against Tampa Bay’s defense. The Panthers sweep the Buccaneers 28-10.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions: Kevin Kolb is out for this week, but that doesn’t matter much because they have Michael Vick under center to throw or run the ball. He led a comeback against the Packers last week, almost leading the Eagles to a victory. The Detroit Lions should have won last week against the Bears. They showed great improvement during the offseason, and should be able to overcome that late loss to the Bears last week. If Matthew Stafford is healthy, he should be able to keep the game close. However, the Eagles will win this game 27-17.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals: The Baltimore Ravens won their Monday Night game, but it was a low scoring affair. Joe Flacco and Ray Rice didn’t appear to be on top of their game last week. This week against the Bengals, they should have all of their kinks worked out and they will be able to walk over the Bengals defense. With a high-powered offense, the Bengals will look to throw it up in the air against the Ravens. Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens are both deep threats that need to be watched each play. This game is a toss-up, but I give the upper hand to the Ravens 27-24.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Pittsburg Steelers at Tennessee Titans: The Steelers are without Big Ben again this week. We could really see the effects last week as they performed without him. The Tennessee Titans dominated Oakland last week. Chris Johnson is the top running back in the league and he will be running all over the Steelers’ defense. The Titans will win this 35-21.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos: The Seahawks performed surprisingly well last week. They dominated the 49ers and allowed only 6 points. Matt Hasselbeck threw for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns against the fairly strong secondary. The Denver Broncos have a starting quarterback in Kyle Orton. He threw for 295 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Brandon Lloyd for over 100 yards. The Broncos should win this game 24-17.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Saint Louis Rams at Oakland Raiders: For his first professional game as a starter, Sam Bradford performed almost brilliantly, even though they still lost. He threw for 250 yards and a touchdown. This was a change from last year, because Steven Jackson was even able to get the running game going, and rushed for over 80 yards. Darren McFadden was the talk of the Raiders last week. He had 150 yards combined and a touchdown. Jason Campbell was what the Raiders needed to get this offense turned around. Hopefully this will be the same story this week as the Raiders defeat the Rams 21-17.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Houston Texans at Washington Redskins: Matt Schaub wasn’t what we were hoping for last week, but Arian Foster showed that he is a worthy #1 running back. He rushed for over 230 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Colt’s solid defense. This week, the Texans will try to get their air game going again and see if they can get the Schaub-Johnson connection again. The Redskins acquired McNabb over the summer and that really helped them overcome the Cowboys last week. Chris Cooley and Moss are reliable targets for him and will be effective this week against the Texans. The Texans win this game 28-20.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: New England Patriots at New York Jets: The Patriots showed dominance last week as they tore apart the Bengals in the first half. Tom Brady threw for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns, two of which were to Wes Welker, who is coming off a knee injury from last year. LaDainian Tomlinson showed that he is still a productive back for the Jets, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. Unfortunately for them, Mark Sanchez threw for only 74 yards and looked almost horrible as he played against the Ravens. This week will be the same as they play against the strong defense of the Patriots. The Patriots win this game 31-10.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: Jacksonville Jaguars at San Diego Chargers: The Chargers were upset last week as they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Phillip Rivers threw for almost 300 yards. Their special teams needs a lot of work as they allowed a critical touchdown return. The Jaguars defeated the Broncos last week. Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 98 yards last week against The Broncos. The Chargers should win this, barring a horrible performance like last week, 27-24.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: New York Giants at Indianapolis Colts: The Giants dominated the Panthers last week. Eli Manning and Hakeem Nicks showed that they are a great duo that needs to be watched. The Colts on the other hand lost to the Texans pretty handily. Their run defense was horrible, but this week it will hopefully be better. The Colts win this game 23-20.
2010 NFL Week 2 Predictions: New Orleans Saints at San Francisco 49ers: Even though the Saints didn’t put many points on the board last week, they should be able to produce this week against the “surprisingly weak” defense of the 49ers. If the 49ers didn’t fix their defensive problems that they had last week, they will be in a world of pain this week because the Saints are going to come marching into their stadium and tear them apart. Drew Brees should be able to hook up with Marques Colston and put big points on the board. The Saints will win this game 35-10.
