It’s time for my 2010 NFL Week 3 predictions and picks. During week 2, upsets were quite common. Miami, Chicago and Pittsburgh all notched huge and unexpected road victories. Will the 2010 NFL Week 3 be back to business as usual or will more upsets take place?
Let’s start our Week 3 predictions and picks with Tennessee at New York(Giants). This is a huge game on the schedule for many reasons for both of these teams. The winner could establish momentum and head in the right direction. The loser could be on the outside looking in for the 2010 playoff race. The Giants were absolutely drilled by Peyton Manning and Indianapolis on Sunday night. Can they rebound from such a horrible loss to beat a solid Tennessee team? My gut feeling is that the Giants will manage a 23-20 hard fought win over the Titans.
Vince Young will most likely get the nod at starting quarterback per Jeff Fisher-expect a better game from Young but without a win. Eli Manning connects for a touchdown and Brandon Jacobs adds another in the win.
The Titans could have easily won against Pittsburgh minus a few turnovers this past Sunday. It’s a loss that could haunt Tennessee for the rest of the season.
Pittsburgh meanwhile travels to Tampa Bay. The Steelers defense absolutely made fans in Pittsburgh forget the offense is terrible this past Sunday in a 19-11 win in Nashville. I have the feeling Tampa will somehow elude the 42 turnovers that the Titans handed Pittsburgh. The Bucs will go 3-0 with a 17-13 win over the Steelers.
My 2010 NFL Week 3 predictions and picks move on with Cincinnati at Carolina. Can the Panthers finally rebound? The Carolina offense has looked terrible this season. Does it make any sense that this team could play well against a tough Bengals D? Probably not. I pick the Bengals to get a key early season road win 20-14.
The next game on the 2010 NFL Week 3 schedule is Cleveland at Baltimore. I look for the Ravens to roll in this one. Baltimore gets 2 Ray Rice touchdown runs in a 31-10 win. The Browns probably won’t be able to compete on the road against an angry Ravens defense.
Dallas travels to Houston in the next game on the schedule. The Cowboys are 0-2 after losses to Chicago and Washington in weeks one and two. A loss to Houston could make Dallas 0-3. The Texans are 2-0 with wins over Indy and Washington. This could be a major statement game for Houston in a season of statement games thus far. It could also be a Jerry Johnson “getting ready to fire a coach” moment with a Cowboys loss. I think the Texans offense is just too good to be slowed down. Tony Romo would need to play a career contest to win in Houston. It can happen. But I don’t believe it will. My predictions and picks have the Texans emerging with a 30-20 win over the Cowboys in week three. Jerry Jones will be ready to throw the hammer down if such a horrific start takes place.
San Francisco travels to 2-0 Kansas City on the next game on the agenda. Can the Chiefs actually start the season 3-0? I believe they’ll find a way to get their third consecutive win to open the season. Kansas City wins 20-16. Matt Cassel tosses a pair of touchdown passes.
The 2010 Week 3 schedule continues with Detroit in Minnesota. The Vikings are very hungry at 0-2. Detroit has been very competitive this year but have lost a pair of squeakers. I think the Vikings will edge the Lions 28-22. Brett Favre has 2 touchdown passes and Adrian Peterson adds two more on the ground.
Next up-Buffalo pays a visit to New England. The Bills just got obliterated in Green Bay. Buffalo is playing like the worst team in the entire league right now. I don’t look for that to change with a 33-10 loss in New England. Tom Brady tosses 3 touchdown passes in the win.
Atlanta travels to New Orleans also in week 3 of the NFL schedule. The Falcons could use a huge road win against the defending champs. I think Atlanta will play close but no cigar in this one. Saints edge the Falcons 28-27.
Washington travels to St. Louis after a tough loss to Houston. The Redskins are completely capable of having a great season. A great season certainly won’t happen with a loss to the Rams. I think Washington gets a big 27-13 win over the Rams to improve to 2-1.
Philadelphia travels to Jacksonville also during the 2010 NFL week 3 schedule. Can the Eagles get back to back road wins behind Michael Vick? Jacksonville is playing like two different teams. There is the Jags team that plays on the road and the Jags team that plays at home. I think the home Jacksonville team wins 30-21. David Garrard throws 2 touchdown passes in the victory.
My 2010 NFL Week 3 predictions and picks continue with Oakland at Arizona. The Cardinals are reeling after getting crushed in Atlanta. Arizona figures out a way to win with a 21-20 victory in Oakland.
San Diego travels to Seattle. The Chargers don’t always show up for road games the way they play at home. Seattle absolutely blew out San Francisco in week one before losing in week two at Denver. Which Seattle team will show up? Not the one that needs to win. The Chargers win 27-14.
Denver hosts Indianapolis in a huge game for both teams early in the season. The Broncos have played well-but the Colts are the Colts. Denver would need to play an incredible game to walk away with a victory during week 3. The Colts offense seemed to find its momentum on Sunday night and it may be 3-4 weeks before Peyton Manning and company slow down a bit. I look for the Colts to romp 31-16.
2-0 Miami hosts the New York Jets on Sunday night. NBC probably couldn’t have predicted the Dolphins would be the 2-0 team of this bunch. Miami could go 3-0 with a win over the Jets. Until New York finds an offensive rhythm, I don’t think they’ll be able to win a game against a solid team like Miami on the road. Especially in front of a national television audience. The Dolphins make their own statement with a 19-16 win.
The best game on the schedule appears to be taking place on Monday night during the 2010 NFL Week 3 schedule. Green Bay(2-0) pays a visit to Chicago(2-0). Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers are both off to great starts. What may be more important for both teams is that each is playing incredible defense. So what happens when two solid defensive teams battle what appears to be two solid offenses? Usually the defense wins out. I don’t think that will be the exact case in this contest of two high powered offenses. In fact, I think Chicago will hold home court with a 31-28 overtime win. This one could and should be close–but expect Aaron Rodgers to get pressure like he hasn’t had to endure in some time. Urlacher records two sacks and causes a fumble in the Chicago victory. Cutler tosses 3 touchdown passes.
That’s it for my 2010 NFL Week 3 predictions and picks. I’ll be back for Week 4–until then, enjoy the football games for the coming week everybody!
