Jasmine Herron, 23, was clipped by the car door of 24-year-old Staten Island resident, Krystal Francis, the night of September 11. The impact knocked Herron into the path of the B45 bus which ran over and killed her. The accident occured on Atlantic Avenue near the Washington Avenue intersection.
After calling 911, Francis left the scene and went to meet with friends and family at a nearby baby shower. She was escorted back to the scene by police and arrested for driving on a suspended license. She is charged with being an Aggravated Unlicensed Operator.
According to the New York State DMV, “bicyclists, in-line skaters, and motor vehicle drivers must all use and obey the same traffic laws. A motorist must recognize that a bicyclist or in-line skater has the same rights as any another motor vehicle driver. Bicyclists and skaters must obey all traffic signals, signs and pavement markings.” Stay alert, and be safe.
