You don’t always have to rely on costly beauty products and treatments to achieve beautiful, stunning skin and hair. Don’t worry if you can’t spare some money on those branded products celebrities endorse. Here are some inexpensive yet highly effective beauty substitutes straight from your kitchen.
Olive Oil for All-Around Beauty
You can experience the benefits of olive oil not only by its ingestion but also through its topical application. Olive oil is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, which are very good for the skin. Aside from moisturizing and nourishing skin, olive oil can repair and renew skin that has been damaged by sun exposure, pollution and poor diet. It is recommended to use good-quality, organic extra-virgin olive oil for skin care.
After showering, pat your skin until almost dry, and then massage olive oil throughout your body in a circular motion. It will leave your skin feeling soft and supple.
If your hands are always dry and cracked, you can massage a generous amount of olive oil into your hands before heading to bed, put on cotton gloves, and leave them on overnight. You will be surprised at how soft and smooth your hands will be with regular use.
Did you run out of makeup remover? If you want to make sure that you remove all traces of makeup, you can use olive oil as a gentle and effective makeup remover. Dab a little amount of olive oil onto a damp cotton ball or cotton swab to remove makeup. When used consistently, olive oil has the added advantage of moisturizing the delicate skin around the eye area and nourishing your eyelashes.
If you hate dry or chapped lips, dab a little olive oil on them and you now have luscious, glossy lips.
You can also use olive oil to revitalize your hair. Put a small amount of olive oil in the palm of your hand and massage it thoroughly into your hair. Just cover your pillow with a towel and sleep with the olive oil in your hair. Shampoo and rinse your hair in the morning. You will discover that the olive oil treatment will make your hair much softer and stronger as well as it give it extra shine.
Sugar as Exfoliator
In the shower, take a handful of white sugar and gently massage throughout your body using a soft washcloth. Rinse afterwards. It will leave your skin decadently soft and smooth. Now how sweet is that?
Honey for your Hair
Honey is a moisture-rich conditioner. It contains humectant properties that draw moisture into your hair.
Massage honey into your hair. Cover your head with a warm towel or plastic shower cap and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Honey actually rinses out easily, so no need to worry about making a sticky mess. It will add body and bounce to your hair, while giving it that lustrous shine.
