As we journey through this 30 days of thanksgiving in this thankful month of November I am (once again) realizing the cathartic effects that being so thankful for one specific thing (people, places) is having on me.
When I made the decision to expand on my sister’s Facebook thankful status idea I was looking forward to the therapeutic benefit but I just didn’t realize the full scope of it – it really has become one of the best parts of my day – every day.
One other thing that writing a thankful article each day has done for me has been to keep me hopping-busy. I am thankful for that too because I like to stay busy. But today I am truly giving thanks for one specific thing that was not on my original thankful list – yes, I’ve veered off the path, folks.
Today I am thankful that it’s Saturday. I thought it might be a tad bit difficult to explain just why I am so thankful for this day so instead I’m going to write a letter – to Saturday. I don’t expect a response from the day; other than what its doing for me already – simply being the best day of the week.
My letter to the day – Saturday:
Hello, my friend. So nice to see you. It took awhile for you to come around again (6 whole days) but I am glad you are here.
I hope it won’t make you blush to know that I consider you the best day of the week. Don’t be shy, Saturday. I’m going to tell you why.
I am thankful on Saturday for waking up at my usual time (between 4-5 a.m.); no alarm needed.
I am thankful on Saturday that I can get all caught up with what I missed overnight.
I am thankful on Saturday that there is no rush to be anywhere in the next hour or so.
I am thankful on Saturday that there is a quiet in the house that no other day of the week provides at this time of the morning.
I am thankful on Saturday that I feel no guilt for slipping back to bed around 7 a.m. and falling back to sleep for 2 more hours.
I am thankful for Saturday because when I do finally get up for the day (this fabulous day) that I am greeted with love from my kid (that I’m finally up; geesh, mom); and with smiles from a well rested and happy significant other who loves his (sleep in) Saturdays too.
I am thankful for Saturday because we all get to relax and recoup from the week.
I am thankful for you, dear Saturday (most especially) that you only come once a week. Because quite honestly, I could get used to all the good things that happen on your (our) day, Saturday. And, unfortunately, my schedule simply does not allow any other day of the week to be as fabulous as you.
So thank you, dear Saturday, for being the best day of my week. I do appreciate all your other friends (you know…Monday through Friday…and Sunday too), but I am most especially thankful for you!
I expect no response from this best day of the week. Other than to continue doing that thing “it” does – allowing me to enjoy the day, my family, my home, and whatever other interesting stuff that seems to pop up only on a Saturday.
Thank you, Saturday. For being the best day of the week and for only coming once every 6 days.
Please Note: I could totally get used to having a week full of Saturdays. But then I would begin to miss the rest of the days of the week, for sure. Enjoy each day of your life and live it to the fullest – mind, body, and spirit. Make each day the best it can be. Take pleasure in this day and treasure each and every darn minute of it.
