3D gaming is here and the Sony PlayStation 3 will is the first current gen console to jump into the fray. Sony recently announced that its popular PS3 console would take on 3D and following are 4 ways the PS3 will go 3D in the year 2010.
The Sony PlayStation 3 is the first gaming console to take on 3D gaming – with the Nintendo 3DS to soon follow suit and the Xbox 360 still trying to figure things out – and has recently released a firmware update that’ll allow 3D gaming for PS3 users that also own a 3DTV. So far Sony has released four 3D capable games – Wipeout, Motorstorm, Super Stardust and PAIN – but plains to release more in the near future. 3D gaming is an interesting new spin on gaming that is sure to make gaming more realistic and take gaming consoles to the next level.
Coming in October 2010, another PS3 firmware update will turn Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray players in to 3D capable Blu-ray players. Seeing how 3D Blu-ray players cost almost as much as a PS3, this free firmware upgrade will make the PS3 a great value for 3DTV owners and will transform the PS3 from just a gaming console into a 3DTV family entertainment system.
3D photos? Wait, wuh? Yes, you’ve heard it right, the PlayStation 3 will support 3D photos by the end of the year. Before Sony made the announcement of 3D photo support, I actually had no idea that 3D photos existed, but Sony and other major digital camera companies have been working on cameras that will allow you to capture photos in full 3D. Sony hasn’t disclosed how the PS3 will work with 3D photos, but I’ll be sure to check this interesting feature out as soon as it hits the market.
3DTV via PlayTV
With Sony announcing that the PS3 will have native 3D gaming support, 3D photo support, and will allow support for 3D capable Blu-ray discs, it’s a no-brainer that they’ll also support 3DTV. In 2010 Sony will broadcast 3D content – movies, TV shows, etc. – through its PlayTV service via their PSN network.
