Rules were made to be broken. We can’t expect to be perfect all the time. Besides, isn’t it a challenge to break rules and not get caught? I will share with you 5 rules I have broken, and the consequences of breaking them if I had been caught.
Rule #1 Don’t Return Clothing You have Already Worn. How many of us are guilty of returning a piece of clothing after we’ve already worn it, because we had no intention of keeping it in the first place? I am. I once bought a very expensive dress to wear to a New Year’s Eve party, only to return it with tags the next day after I had worn it. I didn’t get caught. I simply said I didn’t try it on before I bought it, and that it didn’t fit right. It was returned with no questions asked at an upscale department store. If I had gotten caught, the salesperson could have denied my return, and I would have been stuck paying for a dress I hadn’t planned on keeping in the first place. However, I loved breaking that rule, because I looked darn good that New year’s Eve.
Rule #2 Don’t Return Items To Stores You Didn’t Purchase Them From. Have you ever bought something, and then lost the receipt, only to return it to the store that you know takes back anything without a receipt? I have. I once bought a tea kettle from a store that required a receipt for all returns or exchanges. Well, I misplaced my receipt, so I just took it to another store that carried that same brand, and got a store credit. If I had gotten caught, it could have been embarrassing for me to have been caught in a lie. The store could have refused the return, and I would have been stuck with a tea kettle I didn’t want. Hey, if you need to return something and don’t have the receipt, you might as well take it back to a store that will accept it.
Rule #3 Don’t Talk or Text in Church. Let’s face it, church can be very boring. I have been guilty of talking to family members and texting instead of listening to the priest. If I had been caught, the priest could have embarrassed me in front of the entire congregation. I guess that’s why I sit in back. I’ve had a lot more fun gossiping with family members during mass, than paying attention to Father.
Rule #4 Don’t Call In Sick to Work If You Aren’t Sick. Come on, everyone has played hookie. I did it all the time when I worked outside the home. Sometimes, you’d rather go shopping, or have a day to yourself, rather then sit in a stuffy office for 9 hours. If I had gotten caught, I could have lost my job. That would have been an extremely big consequence. But, I never did, and I had a lot of fun ditching work.
Rule #5 Cheating On A Test. Everyone has cheated from one time to another. I once cheated on a test in high school, because I forgot to study. Okay, I didn’t forget, I just didn’t want to. Besides, my best friend always got A’s, and I sat right next to her. If I had gotten caught, I could have gotten a 0 on the test. But, I didn’t. I got the A, and my parents were very proud of me.
Sometimes it’s fun to break rules. That’s why they are there. As long as you aren’t committing a crime, or hurting someone else, it’s okay from time to time.
