Growing up is overrated, sometimes it just out and out stinks. Don’t get me wrong being out of High School and having a satisfying career and family with responsibilities and a mortgage is wonderful; but that doesn’t mean that your teenage dreams need to be put out to pasture. Every once and a while it is essential for your well being to let loose at least just a little bit. Just because you are a mom of four doesn’t mean your dreams and silly side should die. Take a page from my nostalgic interludes and maybe you will be inspired to make your own “rule breaking” to do list.
5. I keep my hair long and I am over 35.
I am sick of society telling me that I should chop my hair into a manly bob just because I hit 35. Long hair keeps you feeling young and sexy. My 92 year old grandma always says”your hair is your crowning glory”, and if you desire to have flowing locks go for it. I keep my hair long despite what beauty experts say about my age group and I look fabulous.
4. I go to NKOTB Concerts and act like I am 15
My sister and I were die hard New Kids On the Block fans when we were teenagers over 18 years ago. So, when we heard they were doing a reunion tour all these years later my sister immediately ordered us front row tickets. As soon as Donnie, Jordan, Joe, Jon and Danny hit the stage my inner 17 year old busted out. I screamed and danced and laughed and cried. Put it this way if my 2 year old daughter was a teen herself she would have hid her head in shame if she witnessed my actions. It is a night that I will never forget or regret, “oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the right stuff “. They are coming back this time with The Back Street Boys and you best believe I will be there screaming my head off once again.
3. I drink 2 glasses of Wine Per Night
Although recent studies have found that red wine(my sacred salvation) has many health benefits; some people turn their noses up to a wife and mom having a couple of glasses each evening. I say as long as you are not drinking to get drunk and just simply enjoying the calmness of sipping on the succulent grape juice plus, more power to you. Americans are way too uptight and I think following in the tradition of my Italian heritage and raising your glass will raise many a depressed souls in this country.
2. Looking at Pics of Old Boyfriends and dancing to 80s freestyle
If you are married and settled in cozy with your husband it would be scandalous to bust out old pics of you and your favorite ex boyfriends right? I say no way, sometimes looking back helps to rejuvenate your old feeling soul. I am not saying you should live in the past and dwell on what could have been. I am saying I like to take old photos out of past loves to remember who I used to be and where I am now. I like to celebrate the love that I once shared and how it helped me grow. If you have a stable secure relationship there is nothing wrong with a little reminiscing.
1. Prank Phone Calls
Making prank phone calls is guaranteed to bring back the care free child in you. Every kid has felt the rush of dialing a number of a friend disguising your voice and engaging them in the ultimate prank phone call. Yes it is childish but when I am taking life way to seriously I pick up that phone and do a few for fun. Try it I am telling you, it will be the first in a long time you will be fully in the moment. Bringing back my silly side has become a goal of mine, it is key to a long happy life.
