What are five songs Miley Cyrus should cover? The recently minted 18-year-old singer and Disney star has produced her share of original hit records. But which songs would be interesting to see her perform?
Miley reportedly turned down the Bret Michaels song “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” at a recent music awards show because of the rumored affair between her mom, Tish Cyrus and Bret. Miley may have turned down Michaels’ famed ballad, but here are a couple other songs the Disney pop tart could cover.
“Leather and Lace”
This song was originally sung by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley. Miley Cyrus would need a male to accompany her if she chose to cover this song. I think Miley Cyrus has the gritty pipes to pull of this classic. My only question if she chose to sing “Leather and Lace” would not be if she could make it work–just who would be by her side to sing with her. Justin Bieber might still be a bit too young to be the male vocalist on this rock and roll classic. I think someone like a David Archuleta would be able to provide enough energy and hit the notes on a duet like “Leather and Lace” for an awards show.
This Martina McBride country song is an anthem for so many young women. I think as a tribute to one of the best female singers in country music, this would be a nice change of pace for Miley and a smooth transition at the same time. Why do I think Miley should cover a Martina McBride song? I think it just fits her youthful enthusiastic personality very well and I believe Miley has the range to conquer such a song.
“Bless The Broken Road”
I wouldn’t mind seeing a female tackle this inspirational song originally performed by Rascal Flatts. Here is a live version of the Rascal Flatts live performance. Why would this be a great song for Miley Cyrus to cover? I think now that she is a bit older and wiser that this song of finding true love would seem like a better fit. My guess is that Miley could hammer out a great female rendition of one of the most beautiful country music love songs ever produced.
“Walking on Sunshine”
Originally performed by Katrina and the Waves, this song would be a great fit for a singer like Miley Cyrus. I think she could belt out the lyrics and provide the energy it takes to make this song believable. Would Miley Cyrus ever cover a song like “Walking on Sunshine”? It kind of sounds like the type of inspirational made for movie songs she has been very successful with.
This Pat Benatar song was fabulous in the 80s. Could Miley Cyrus pull it off if she attempted to cover it? I think she would crush “We Belong” out of the park. Of all the previous rock singers I’ve seen, I think Miley will be closer in proximity to a Pat Benatar type as she ages–if she decides to stick around. If you listen closely to Benatar on a song like We Belong, you can almost hear the inflection of a Miley Cyrus type.
Those are my five songs I would love to see Miley Cyrus cover on a future album, awards show or live in concert. Is there a possibility she has already attempted one or more of these songs? Absolutely. I think Miley Cyrus has the skill set to pull off many of the great songs from artists past–but these five in particular seem like terrific fits and I think would be absolute home runs for Miley if she decided to go that route.
