WORST GIFTS FOR MEN
Gifts show that someone has thought about you and put effort into giving you a present that they thought would make you happy. Great presents brighten any man’s day. It usually requires some thoughtfulness, love, and understanding of the other person. While any grateful person would express thanks when receiving a gift, these five worst gifts for men are likely to end up in the basement, re-gifted, or put away without a second thought. Here are the five worst gift ideas for boyfriends, husbands, and other men in your life.
1. Socks or Underwear
Men want gifts that are useful. They wear socks and underwear everyday, right? It’s an easy gift that you can be sure they won’t return or re-gift, but how thoughtful is it? Is this the gift you really want to be remembered for? Gift-giving is about showing your love for someone and, even if this gift will be used, it doesn’t exactly say “I Love You.”
Ask any man what he thinks about ties and one of his responses is guaranteed to be “uncomfortable.” Most men only wear ties when they are either working or attending a fancy party. Even though that tie may have caught your eye, it will most likely sit in the back of his closet along with all his other ties that he would rather not wear. Do you really want your present to remind him of work?
3. Office Supplies
Similar to number two worst gift on this list, this present will simply remind him of work rather than a gift of love. Yes, it is a useful gift, but thoughtfulness and consideration should also play a part in any present.
4. “Gag Gifts” and Other Useless Knick Knacks
That plush bacon may get a chuckle out of him when he opens his present, but how useful is it, really? He may be entertained for a few days before it gets thrown in the basement and never seen again until the next garage sale. A house, condo, or apartment can only hold so many cute knick knacks.
5. Any type of “Self-Improvement” gifts, unless specifically asked for
You may think you are giving a subtle hint by gifting him exercise equipment or diet cookbooks, but turn the situation around. How excited would you be if your significant other hinted that YOU should be losing weight? Even if he has gained a few too many pounds over the past year or if he has confided in you that his new years resolution is to lose weight, do NOT give him these types of gifts unless he specifically asks for it. The same goes for other self-improvement gifts, such as meditation tapes or yoga equipment for the non-yoga fan. If he gave this to you, you would consider if one of the worst gifts you received.
