Once your children have grown out of the diaper stage of their lives, you will most likely be jumping for joy. But what do you do with the old wooden changing table when you are done? Here are six ideas for new uses of an old changing table.
Gardening Station. A great new use of an old changing table is that of a gardening station. Sand down the wood, prime, and paint with a color that will not show dirt too bad. Place the cart in a gardening shed, on a back porch, or any other place convenient. Insert potting soil on lower racks, small hand tools, watering cans, etc. There is an extra bonus if the old changing table has a drawer — perfect storage for gloves, seed packets, etc!
DVD, VHS, & CD Case Holder. Another great use for an old changing table is that of a DVD, VHS, & CD case holder. Paint the changing table to match your existing entertainment center or armoire. Once dry, place the changing table in your living area. Or, if you prefer, place it in a nearby closet. Arrange the audio and video pieces inside so that you can easily read the title spines.
Video Game Cart. If keeping video game systems, controllers, and components on an entertainment center is not an option, use an old changing table! This makes a great video game cart that can be pulled out when in use and put away when you are done. For ease of movement, you can always install rollers on the bottom of the changing table.
Gift Wrapping Station. Finding a place to adequately gift wrap a package and store supplies can be hard. Thus, use an old changing table to create a gift wrapping station! Store ribbon, tape, scissors, and rolls of wrapping paper in the bottom portion of the changing table. Store in a closet or other area during the year and pull it out during holiday time.
Dinner Party Dessert or Beverage Cart. During most dinner parties, you want to be able to differentiate drinks and desserts from the rest of the fare. Why not create a dinner party dessert or beverage cart from an old changing table? This would also work well for creating a mini-bar for use during events, but could be stowed away later.
Fabric & Craft Organizer. Another great use for an old changing table is that of a fabric and craft organizer. Choose plastic bins, baskets, and totes to insert your supplies. Arrange these items neatly on the changing table to create an organized space.
