Unfortunately, some bosses use their power for evil. They think that every employee will bow down to them for fear of losing his (or her) job. If you work for someone with this kind of mentality, you will need to know how to say no, especially when your integrity is on the line.
Say no to your boss, when he . . .
Demands sex from you.
This one is a no-brainer. You don’t want to mix fluids with anyone you don’t love. Besides the havoc this kind of perversion will do on your self-esteem, you could contract a disease.
Asks you to discriminate.
Whether the act is big or small in your eyes, treating someone differently because of his gender, race or religion is hurtful and illegal. Don’t get caught up in this trap. You could end up taking the fall for a belief that wasn’t even yours.
Tells you to misuse funds.
Money is at the root of many wrongdoings by white-collar workers. For this reason, one time you always want to say no to your boss if he asks you to misappropriate funds. Not only can you get fired, but also end up in prison along side him.
Wants you to hide documents.
Just in spy movies, hiding “special” documents usually symbolizes danger. Maybe you might temporarily be doing someone a favor, but once the paper work is found – and it always is – you will face the kind of scrutiny and embarrassment one only dreams of in a nightmare.
Requests you alter legal papers.
Never agree to change signatures, dates or any wording. Doing so may affect the outcome of an event in court. Although this may be advantageous to you, anytime you doctor up legal documents, you set yourself up for jail time and a not-so sweet spot on the cover of a newspaper.
Seeks your help to hurt someone.
Another time you should always say no to the boss is in the case he wants you to physically hurt a co-worker or stranger. Besides the fact that this is criminal behavior, you could get hurt in the process. You might even lose your life trying to carry out a favor for a guy who won’t really miss you in the end.
These are six times you should say no to the boss. Draw the line with the person who’s in charge of you and don’t let him manipulate you into anything that will harm your good character.
