I’ll get straight to the point- 7 bad habits that make you age.
Plucking your eyebrows, pulling at your eyelashes, and plucking out your hair. A lot of women do this self-destructing behavior out of stress. But over-plucking your eyebrows gives you that “old lady” surprised look that I like to deem the “anorexic eyebrow” and thinning your eyelashes makes your eyes look older. Plucking at your forehead and temple hairs makes your hair look thinner and receding and therefore takes away your hair’s youthful fullness, making you appear older. Refrain from tugging out all your hair before you age yourself irreparably. Your eyebrows and eyelashes may not grow back if you over-yank them.
Tanning and sunbathing. Unless you’re into the raisiny, leathery orange, huge freckle look, break out the sunscreen. Tanning and sunbathing (unless it’s the fake tanning) reduces your skin’s elasticity and just makes you look weird over time. How sexy are wrinkly knees and sagging turkey neck skin on an unnatural orange skin tone? Cougars, beware, and young ladies, watch out. You could end up like that crazy lady in “There’s Something About Mary”. Ew.
Drinking a lot of sugary or caffeinated drinks. Once again, you lose skin elasticity. Toss in a few cups of good old-fashioned H2O now and then. For your total weight, divide it by 2, divide that by 8, and that’s how many cups you should be drinking, water wise, per day. Your youthful glow will be a wonderful result.
Dress your age! You’ll look younger if you dress appropriately for your body type and your age. So if you’re 50, avoid decal-ed, ripped jeans and you won’t look like an old lady trying to look younger. Likewise, if you’re 20 and wearing cat embroidered sweaters, you’ll look like a dumpy housewife rather than a young adult.
Biting your nails breaks down your teeth and makes your hands look older. When you have hangnails galore, and your teeth look jagged and discolored from chipping them on your fingernails, you’ll add years to your age.
Smoking is a real age killer. Yellow teeth, singed hair, and premature wrinkles from the constant dragging on of cigarettes, not to mention the raspy smoker’s voice and smoker’s hacking cough that will eventually riddle you will make you appear older than you really are.
And finally, yo-yo dieting. Your poor skin and body have had enough already! That constant expanding and deflating of your skin is bound to leave you looking older, by losing your skin’s elasticity, not to mention the stress on your body physically of trying to maintain any weight. Pick a reasonable weight and keep it. You’re not doing yourself any favors (nor your metabolism) by fluctuating your weight all the time. If the weight you can keep is larger than the weight you wanted, at least you’re not bouncing around all over the place.
