You have to love politics, especially when politicians attempt to grow a brain and attack something scientifically proven like climate science. With the midterm elections over, the GOP intends to do exactly that, attack a science that has been proven over and over again around the world by hundreds of scientists that specifically study climate, also known as climatology. Of course there was the supposed East Anglia proof that the science is faked, but extensive studies in to those hacked emails were done, by scientists who know what they are doing and those same scientists found there to be no botching, no dishonesty, in other words, there was nothing in the least suspicious about what was said in those emails.
So why is the GOP launching an investigation into proven science? Quite frankly the answer is: money! Of course its money. Before I ever got into politics, which involves me with voting at most, I watched and observed how things worked. Here is what I have noticed though the years. A problem will come up (not talking about health care or similarly natured problems). Congress and the senate will look at the situation and talk about it. Both will agree that it’s a problem that needs to be solved. But wait…then money comes into play. Yes, its discovered that in order to solve a problem its going to cost them money. This is where the party deviates. The Democratic party recognizes that we live in a monetary world and to solve things its going to cost money somewhere. It cant be helped, its inevitable. But the GOP (and others like them) hold up the stop sign and say “wait a minute! Back the truck up! You said NOTHING about having to spend money to solve this!” And thus the fight begins
Its absolutely no secret that the GOP has their talons in the big oil, coal, and natural gas companies and gets a huge amount of their finances from their donations. Solving a problem like climate change, or global warming (whichever you prefer) would inevitably cause a shift from these types of energy sources, to cleaner energy sources such as wind and solar for instance. If you don’t think this will effect the business of the current fossil fuel trade, think again. It will…slowly, but surely.
We also have human nature to contend with. How many times have you corrected a child for doing something wrong and the child swear up and down and to every creature in creation that he didn’t do it? Accepting responsibility for our action is simply something that is not natural to us. We have to learn how to do it. Unfortunately many people don’t have a good grasp of this concept. Even as adults some of us just cant step forward and say “hey…we’re screwing things up. Lets fix this.” Especially with something like climate change, people such as those in the GOP, just simply don’t want to admit they are wrong and step up to the plate and help fix things, no matter what the cost.
So that brings us to the GOP’s plans. It would seem that they would go unchallenged and that they will have the final say about good legislation in stopping further environmental damage, and stop truly concerned people from helping the planet on its road to recovery. It seems hopeless now…doesn’t it? Nope, not as hopeless as you might think.!
A few days ago, The American Geophysical Union, which is the nations largest association of climate scientists, announced that they are mobilizing to publicly speak out about climate science, against the GOP’s efforts to debunk it. What I find amazing is, many of these scientists have stayed out of politics and the media, and instead focused their efforts on studying climate and the effects of mans activities on it. They’ve been unswayed by neither politics or the media, regardless of side. The great thing about this? Many more are stepping climate scientists are stepping forward that have nothing to do with the American Geophysical Union, with the same intent, to defend the science.
This is a good move on the part of climate scientists. More need to step up and make this voice louder. The GOP is determined to dismantle any positive step forward so that their own interests stand tall and the interests of the planet not only take the back burner, but get shoved off the stove. Lets hope that they do not succeed.
