If your daughter loves for her Barbie doll to have everything she does then you’ll absolutely have to give Barbie and her friends a nice Christmas! It’s not too hard to find a Barbie doll outfit with a Christmas theme but it’s nearly impossible to find Christmas décor pieces. You can easily make many of them yourself and you’ll spend only pennies to do so!
Right off the bat Barbie will need a Christmas tree for her dollhouse. You can make one in minutes by using a piece from a Styrofoam cone. Cut off the top section of the cone to be as tall as you want the tree to be. Use a dab of hot glue to attach the end of a piece of garland or tinsel to the bottom area of the cone. Wrap the garland around and around until you get to the top. Use a dot of glue on top to secure the end. Purchase a tiny wooden star at a craft store or just glue on a bead to make a tree topper.
There are lots of different ornaments you can make for decorating the tree. A single bead glued on, here and there, or even tiny, fake jewels. Make ornaments by cutting the ends off of cotton swabs and hanging them. Similar things include Styrofoam beads, tiny bows, buttons and even foil balls.
Don’t let the rest of that Styrofoam cone go to waste. Cut the bottom section off of it to make a wreath. You’ll find it much easier to cut Styrofoam perfectly if you use a serrated knife. Cut an old candle a few times with the knife to transfer the wax to it. Cutting will be much easier that way. Make a hole in the center of the round slab then glue on tinsel or small garland to create the wreath. Or, tie on pieces of ribbon or cloth instead.
A piece of red felt can go a long ways towards creating fabulous Christmas décor for the Barbie dollhouse. Cut circles, squares or rectangles to make rugs and tablecloths. Use the felt to make a throw for Barbie, too. Use fabric paint to create simple images or glue on things like tiny fringe. Use the same technique to make Christmas dish towels or even a bedspread.
Of course, Barbie and her friends will each need a stocking. It’s not hard to draw a simplistic stocking shape on to the felt then cut out two of them. Just glue them together but don’t forget to add a tiny piece of folded felt to use for the hanger.
Make all sorts of candy cane décor by using a red and a white pipe cleaner. Wrap them together, cut them into assorted lengths, then make the bend to form the cane. These can be used as curtain tie-backs, door décor, Christmas tree decorations and more.
Little girls love their Barbies and other dolls so they’ll definitely want them to have a nice Christmas. They will, too, when you make a few cheap and easy holiday decorations for the dollhouse!
