The stereotype of every loving parent taking a trip to Disneyworld or Disneyland so the kids can make a lifetime of memories with Mickey and the crew, just isn’t practical in this economy. Many families are on tight budgets due to lay-offs, salary cuts or just an increase in prices. There are several options for the current vacation if the dream vacation is not in the cards.
If the kids are obsessed with the idea of Disneyland or Disneyworld, the closest you can get is Hershey Park, Dutch Wonderland or Knoebels. These are all great amusement parks that are located in Central Pennsylvania. Hershey Park is more pricy than the other two. With regular tickets running $53 and discounted tickets around $40 for adults for one day admission to Hershey Park and Zoo America, Hershey Park isn’t cheap. Full cost season tickets cost $142 per person. Knoebels has the distinction of being one of few free admission amusement parks. This can be a good deal if you are only going to ride a few rides or for the pool and waterslides. Knoebels also offers other admission plans too so there is bound to be one that works for you. Dutch Wonderland’s tickets are in the $31 range. Dutch Wonderland does tend to cater more to the younger kids. This amusement park is just down the street from major outlet malls.
There are a lot of things to do when you take a trip to Amish Country . The Amish located in Lancaster County have markets you can visit, tours and buggy rides. There is plenty to see and many educational opportunities and museums. It could be an eye opening look at a new culture if you’ve never been there before. Just make sure to drive carefully, you will be sharing the road with the Amish horse and buggies.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is in the middle of Amish Country, Knoebels and Hershey Park, you can go camping at Pinch Pond . Camping is a great family friendly activity and this campsite in particular has a lot of family activities scheduled on weekends. It is family owned and operated. If you already have the camping gear, the rates for a tent lot run from $35-$38 a night for a family. If you do not have the gear, then a cabin or cottage site will range from $51 to $56 a night for a family. They do offer AAA discounts.
There are plenty of options for a fun “staycation” in central Pennsylvania!
