In the early 1980’s “A Christmas Story” was released into theaters. Though it did rather well, it didn’t get the attention it deserved until it was aired on cable in 1988. Shortly after being aired on cable, it became a well loved Christmas film. “A Christmas Story” was partially filmed in Cleveland due to the fact that Higbee’s, a huge department store at the time was willing to let the movie be filmed inside their store. The museum and home of the Parkers have been restored and renovated to make you feel as if you are part of that time, of that town, of the Parker household. The museum is directly across from the Parker’s home and features photographs of the crew, props, costumes, and much more. There is even a gift shop where you can purchase almost anything imaginable that has to do with “A Christmas Story,” including bunny suits, leg lamps, or a Red Ryder gun. To come see the home in which the movie was filmed and the museum that holds the memorabilia and propaganda used in the movie itself would make a great trip to plan for the family during the holidays.
The home of the Parkers and the museum are open year round and are relatively cheap ranging from $6-$8. Children under 7 years old are free. The admission includes a tour of the house and the museum. The museum even hosts meet and greets with some of the actors as well as offering autographed photographs . There are many things to see and do between the museum, house, and gift shop. The Parker’s home and “A Christmas Story” museum are preserved for all to enjoy where one of America’s most beloved holiday movies was filmed. It is an amazing way of keeping alive and creating new holiday traditions for families everywhere.
