If you are a business owner you are probably debating whether or not your business should send Christmas cards out to your customers and clients this year. There are a number of reasons on both sides of this debate to send them or not send them. I am not a business owner, I am just a customer, a regular person and in my opinion I think it is a good idea to send Christmas cards out.
I know it can get expensive, but some of your clients might not get a lot of Christmas cards and getting one from you would help cheer them up that someone does care. I know that I generally get as many Christmas cards from family as I do from places I was a customer at. Some places even send me Christmas cards even though I haven’t been a client in over 5 years. But getting that card from those places makes me recommend that business to other people and I explain how friendly that business is and how much they care about their customers even past customers. And if I were going to purchase something that that business sales I would definitely go to them first.
Now there are a lot of people out there that do not celebrate Christmas, so instead of a Christian Christmas card you might consider just sending out “Holiday” cards, or “Thinking of you during this season” cards. Or even just Thank you for being a customer this year, or in the past cards. This way your customers know that you do appreciate their business and them as an individual.
You could also include your business card in the card. However, do not ask for their business again in the card. The card itself will let people know you would like their business or for them to recommend your company to friends and family and asking for something in a card is very rude. You wouldn’t send a Get Well Card to your grandma and ask her for $50 in it would you? So, don’t mention wanting your customers business again in your Holiday cards.
So when you are weighing the pros and the cons this season on whether or not you should send out Christmas cards, think about this opinion of one customer. I know I enjoy receiving cards from the places that I’ve been a customer, especially if it was a large purchase, and I know that I will chose to do business with the companies that send out cards first before other companies and I recommend those companies I receive cards from to my friends and family. So it may be expensive, and it may offend some people that don’t celebrate Christmas, or “Holiday” cards may disappoint some Christians that believe it should be Christmas and not Holiday, but the majority of people that receive those cards from you will generate more business for you.
