Every year there are some very good haunted houses set up for Halloween in Austin, Texas. Austin is a city that goes all out for Halloween and there are many different haunted houses throughout the area that families can go to in order to get their scare on. The following are two of the most popular ones in the Austin area:
Mansion of Terror
2000 South IH 35, Round Rock, TX 78681
Phone: (512) 670-8452
This is one of the most popular of all of the haunted houses in the Austin area and actually includes two haunted houses for the price of one. The cost is $15 for one house and both houses can be visited for $20. Those who are looking for a group event call the number listed above to find out about group discounts. Smaller children may be too scared for this one as it is more geared for the older ones. There are two themes, the first which is called Blood Frenzy II and is based on a notorious serial killer from the area. The second is Death Asylum: Zombie Carnage and is based on zombies in an insane asylum. With themes like these it is not hard to understand why these would not be appropriate for smaller kids.
House of Torment
523 Highland Mall Blvd., Austin TX 78752
Phone: (512) 407-9449
The House of Torment also has two haunted houses for the price of one and the prices are the same as the Mansion of Terror. This haunted house is not for younger children unless they are accompanied by an adult and no babies are allowed to be carried and must be in a stroller. Both houses have been lauded as having the best quality sets and are worth the money for the scares. There are more scares than many of the other haunted houses in Austin and the entire United States. In 2009 it was voted 5th scariest by Reuters and one of the scariest by the Travel Channel. The two themes of these houses are House of Torment: Rise of the Abominations and Illusion Manor: The Phantasm Curse.
These two haunted houses in Austin are the best for being the scariest. The each offer two different mazes within one house and they both run around $20 for the two. While these are not recommended for smaller children, they are perfect for the teenagers and adults who love a great scare with realistic looking sets and monsters.
