Not just simply delicious. Over the top-I want to skip to the loo my darling delicious. I found this warm little bakery after driving back and forth Atlantic Avenue in Cocoa Beach, Florida Cape Canaveral looking for breakfast. Myself, along with my two friends were committed to banning anything that resembled a Denny’s or an IHOP. We wanted a unique pile of pancakes that would turn our frowns upside down. Rock our world basically. Unfortunately this seemed like too much to ask for. We were already disturbed by the drab scenery of old hotels and 1980’s shopping centers in this part of Cocoa Beach.
In our quest for the perfect Cocoa Beach breakfast we ran out of gas. Stopping at a hole in the wall Chevron (everything about this gas station had seen better days); I felt brave and asked the cashier where to eat. His long curly hair and sunken eyes gave little credibility to his recommendation, but we ran with it anyways- Simply Delicious Café and Bakery about 3 miles away.
Dear Chevron Gas Station Cashier,
Thank you! Simply Delicious was a breakfast chic ecstasy. The yellow cheery walls that danced with sunshine brightened my un-caffeinated soul. The humble table settings with sprays of flowers made us smile. Our waitress wore an apron splashed with blue and pink cupcakes and genuinely welcomed us from the depths of her goodness. I learned later that our waitress was the owner and I am still in awe at how well she detailed the morning specials. This was no boring Denny’s report on endless pancakes, it was homemade goodness stirred up from the heart ringing in our ears. Cocoa Beach of Cape Canaveral was starting to feel wonderful again.
For breakfast we mowed down on stuffed chocolate chip French toast, an omelet with feta cheese and a mere bagel that was boastfully served with a huge spread of wiggly jellies and cream cheese. While waiting for our food, a trip to the bathroom impressed me even more so. The other waitresses acknowledged my journey to the toilet, smiling, nodding and showing me the way. The bathroom was somehow radiating with joy with its hand painted sign of “Women” and the pink chic walls.
While drinking our tea out of porcelain glass teapots we drooled over the perfect pastries in the glass display. These weren’t your commercial cookies and cakes. They were love rolled into dough, icing that begged to kiss your lips. They were pastries that erased evil thoughts of weight watchers and calories.
Breakfast was quickly served and it warmed our bellies. The gooey freshness of French toast and chocolate chips was next to heaven. The feta cheese omelet was like looking at the world and noticing roses on the sidewalk for the first time. Simply Delicious screamed of a better world where food lifts our spirits and creates a community. Even our neighbor table offered to take our picture to document the ultimate Cocoa Beach breakfast experience. Simply Delicious, you changed breakfast for me forever. Cocoa Beach, Florida is lucky to have you!
