Have you got a sweet tooth? The South Bay has quite a selection to please those chocolate cravings! Starting with candy and cookie shops, followed by variety of bakeries, and finish with an ice cream or a yogurt shop! The most famous confectioneries got their start in California, from Ghiradelli , founded in San Francisco, (http://www.ghirardelli.com/), See’s Candies (See’ Candies ,founded in LA, (http://www.sees.com/), and the famous Le Boulange Bakery – founded in San Francisco (http://www.laboulangebakery.com/) , all have locations in the East and South Bay Area.
Start your day with a breakfast pastry at La Patisserie (www.lapatisserie.net) on 19758 Stevens Creek Blvd. Currently in season are their Halloween Cookies for $10.50/LB, also try a chocolate truffle for $4.75, petite fores for $1.25, or New York Cheesecake for $4.50 (much smaller than the one at The Cheesecake Factory http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/#lobby) though they are famous for designing wedding cakes. As compared to La Miche Café and Deli on 1107 El Camino in Sunnyvale, which also offers variety of croissants and sandwiches, Bearded Papas (www.beardpapas.com), known for their “World’s Best Cream Puffs”, or Café Grain D’Or on 137 El Camino in Mountain View, which is a larger chain with multiple locations throughout California, La Patisserie takes limited orders per week and focuses on designer cakes.
CookiesByDesign (http://cookiesbydesign-sc.com/) makes edible custom cookie gifts that are hand-decorated and hand-delivered for any occasion. Try from a selection of styles and designs, though their Stevens Creek store is the only one in the South Bay area. In comparison, they taste as good as Mrs. Fields Cookies (http://www.mrsfields.com/) or Cinnabon (http://www.cinnabon.com/) at the Vallco mall.
Sunnyvale also offers unique ethnic sweets shops. A newcomer is Bengali Sweets (www.bengalisweets.net) which just opened a few weeks ago, and other Indian sweets stores, such as Rangoli sweets and Rajjot Sweets on El Camino Real are old favorites.
I finished off my “sweets” expedition at The Sweet Corner (http://www.sweetcornerdessert.com/default.html) on Castro Street in Mountain View. I liked the baby vanilla Dryer’s ice cream here as compared to the larger chains such as Yogurtland (www.yogurt-land.com) , Pinkberry (http://www.pinkberry.com/), or Tutti frutti (http://www.tfyogurt.com/). Treat yourself at one of these locations and stay sweet!
