The other day I was feeling very worried and alone, when a friend I never met showed me that there are angels among us. I sat down to read a few articles and the comments that others had made, when I saw one that grabbed my attention. I had read this persons’ work before, it was always lively, well written, and very well thought out. She comments on many others articles and always ends them on a “cheery” note. Her sense of humor grabs you and makes you wish that you could feel just like that, all the time.
The one comment that grabbed my attention was about a severe health problem that she had suffered not long ago. She did not mention it to get attention, or sympathy it was purely in a form of jest. At the time I read this, I was worried about a health problem of someone I love dearly, and I wondered how this woman could be so cheerful with all she goes through every day. I wanted to have that same feeling in the face of worry.
I took a chance and contacted her, I was curious if she always had this sense of humor or if she found it after her “bump in the road of life”. She pointed me in the direction of her story, which after reading I discovered that when life throws you the worst, if you want, with God’s help you can turn it around, and find good and peace in every moment.
I was raised to believe this, and I feel that peace when it is myself I am concerned about, but I was having a hard time finding that sense of calm as I worried about my loved one. I told this woman about my “heavy heart” and within minutes, this friend I never met lifted my heart with a prayer she sent to me. We prayed it together, as I read it aloud I could feel her warmth coming to me over this World Wide Web, and I was comforted.
This friend I never met, who took the time to listen to me, and write a beautiful prayer for me and my loved one is the epitome of what we give thanks for, during not only this holiday time, but also every day of the year. She is a reminder that when we least expect it, God sends us an angel. There are times in your life when what you do may seem average for you, but it can make the world of difference to someone else, that is what she did for me. Just knowing that someone across the miles with problems of her own took the time to write down a prayer for someone she never met, gave me the peace that I needed.
Cheers to you my friend that I never met, I will never forget your kind and thoughtful prayer, and I will give thanks for you, on this Thanksgiving Day.
