There are times when the weather is bad or else the time is not right to be able to take our child outside. We need to keep him engaged within the home itself. There are a few things that you could do that perhaps would interest your 3 year old and will keep them occupied.
— It’s a good idea to keep different kinds of caps or hats in the house. Teach your 3 year old to put on their clothes. Make them try different kinds of dresses and click a photograph of them in various outfits and then upload the pictures on the computer and show it to your child the snaps you clicked. Your child will surely enjoy posing for the pictures and then seeing them later.
— Use your old magazines and make them do a collage of different sorts like for example that of various food items, different kinds of shoes or dresses. This way they will get to learn some new words and at the same time take pride on the good and colourful work they did. It’s a good idea to display their work on the walls of your child’s room.
— Cooking with kids is a great way to develop a special bond between you and your child. Your 3 year old can help decorating your cupcakes or can also help in arranging the table with a little help. Most kids will love to help you in the kitchen and they are more likely to eat the food they have helped you in preparing. So the next time you want your child to try the broccoli bake for instance, let him or her help you with the cooking by allowing them to add the sauce and cheese to the broccoli dish. And of course, don’t forget to acknowledge and praise your child for the good work they do.
— Read a book to them and ask them questions about it after you have read it. That way it lets you know how much they have understood and you too get an opportunity to rephrase and explain the story to your child. Regular reading is a must for children since it helps in developing their vocabulary.
— Inculcate your child the importance of staying fit. Do some light exercises along with your child or simply put on the music system, get up and dance. Children love to sing and dance and if the parent is also participating with them, they surely would have a lot of fun. Singing songs also adds to the fun. This is a great way of introducing them to the initial lessons in singing and dancing. From my experience I can tell that most of the songs my 3 year old learnt were by way of listening to a music CD or simply hearing me or my husband sing.
These are some of the things that may help you manage your child within the confines of the home and when we need to keep him indoors.
