This year, we have lost a lot of people in the entertainment industry, with most of them being classic movie icons. This past weekend we lost another great actor and entertainment icon, a huge blow to the entertainment industry.
According to Fox News, Kevin McCarthy, best known for his lead role in the classic “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” has died at age 96. McCarthy died on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, of unknown causes; no other information was available. McCarthy is a Golden Globe-winning actor who had many roles in acting over the years, including “Twilight Zone: The Movie” and “Gathering of Eagles.” McCarthy also appeared in “The Misfits,” which was Marilyn Monroe’s last film. McCarthy was a huge staple in the entertainment industry, and his death is truly a loss for everyone.
I remember McCarthy most for his role in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” because it is a classic teenage movie. In that movie, he was really convincing as an actor given the role he had as a doctor. I really liked his demeanor when he was trying to warn the neighbors that alien-like people were coming down to Earth to inhabit human bodies. Although “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” failed to impress when it came out, it is now one of those movies you have to watch as a child or teenager. That movie is a classic about extraterrestrials, and he can definitely make you believe what he is trying to tell you. You cannot become an adult and not see that movie, because it is just one of those all-time classics about something a lot of us fear.
I also remember McCarthy as a person who always wanted to entertain other people, even at his own expense. McCarthy always seemed to want to make other people smile no matter what type of role he was portraying. He seemed selfless in the way he performed and studied his lines, making sure he was always perfect. McCarthy was just a classic entertainer from back in the day, and you have to respect that.
The classic movies that he was in only show how good and respected he was in the industry, which is an achievement not many people can claim. McCarthy appeared on various television shows also, which just makes this loss even worse. When you have an actor who can cross television shows and movies, you know you have someone who really is good at what he does and loves it immensely.
McCarthy lived through a lot of hard times, and he always seemed to know how to put his emotions into his work and make the best out of everything. This is truly a loss for everyone who loves classic movies, and we will all remember him as the doctor who tried to warn everyone what was to come.
