American Idol alumnus Adam Lambert was accused of misdemeanor battery Thursday when a paparazzo claimed that Lambert had accosted him and forced him to the ground, filing a complaint at a Miami Beach Police station. The alleged victim walked into the station around 10:30 p.m., according to TMZ, and told the police his story. According to the alleged victim, Lambert had attacked him to get at his camera.
According to the paparazzo, Adam Lambert allegedly grabbed his backpack “where the camera was placed” and “wrestled [the photog] to the ground forcefully.”
The police report, according to TMZ, notes that the photographer was none the worse for the confrontation, showing no signs of “bruises or lacerations.”
However, TMZ did obtain at least one photo of the tussle on the beach. In the photos, Lambert is positioned behind the photographer, seeming to grapple with him. Lambert’s left hand seems to be placed inside of a backpack.
TMZ points out in their post that there may be a problem with the photographer’s story. He has a camera in his hand.
It is unclear if the paparazzo had a second camera in the backpack.
Law enforcement sources told the celebrity gossip website that the matter would be looked into by detectives to determine whether or not the case should be turned over to the State’s Attorney’s office for prosecution. Lambert faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted of the charge.
Adam Lambert was in Miami Beach Thursday possibly enjoying a respite from his Glam Nation Tour, which had just completed a two-night stint in Atlanta. The tour is nearing the end of its North American leg and is scheduled for three nights in three Florida cities before concluding in Puyallup, Wash., on Sept. 21. Then Lambert is on to the Asian segment of the world tour.
The American Idol alumnus launched his official Adam Lambert Fan Club website on Sept. 1, offering several packages for fans who want more than just updates from his website and what media outlets like TMZ have to offer.
As for Lambert’s take on the incident on the beach? He took to Twitter and posted: “They’re real good at provoking, but there ain’t any pics or video of the b.s. they spew out… Haha welI… lost my temper for a sec but wow it felt great lol MIAMI!!!”
Lambert finished second to Kris Allen in Season 8 of American Idol. Since then, his first album, “For Your Entertainment,” has gone on to sell over 725,000 copies in the United States and over a million worldwide.
