If you are doing your pre Halloween planning and are looking for something to use on cakes, brownies or cupcakes, the Bat Mix is a great looking product to add to your shopping list. The combination of black and orange is a true Halloween classic and looks great with plain white icing or on something with a mid tone color. The sprinkles stick well to frosted treats but you can also add this to royal icing before it starts to harden. If kids want to make something special to take to school they can use a bat cookie cutter (with some supervision) to make their own “Bat Cookies”. Frost them with some royal icing and sprinkle this mix on top. You have to allow at least twenty to thirty minutes for the icing to harden or you will end up with a complete mess.
Wilton Halloween Bat Mix – 710-1454 The Halloween Bat Mix is packaged in a plastic bottle and there are a lot of small black bats that add to the overall visual appeal of it. To get the best ‘stick’ from this you will want to add it to freshly frosted treats so they do not flake off. If you are going to try to apply these sprinkles to store bought cupcakes you might not get great results; there’s no way around that. It all depends on how long the cupcakes have been sitting around and the type of frosting they used. For cakes you won’t have to worry all that much about them sticking because it has a flat surface. You can add these to just about anything that has a sticky surface but you can also use them on ice cream, whipped topping and pumpkin pie.
You can find these in larger Target and Wal-Mart stores as well as Michaels and Jo-Anne Fabrics. Since it is a seasonal item chances are you won’t see it on shelves until the beginning of September. The suggested selling price is $3.29 for a 3.75 ounce bottle but I have found comparable Wilton Halloween sprinkles in this size for a little less in the above listed retail stores.
