Due to severe infertility issues, it took me years to get pregnant. So, when I finally gave birth to my miracle baby Adyson, I wanted the whole world to know, or at the very least my family, friends, neighbors and co-workers! And since I was blessed with a well-behaved bundle, I decided to mass produce my very own hand crafted birth announcements.
Begin by purchasing a stack of pink or blue 8 ½ by 11 card stock paper. Cut each sheet in two and then fold in half to form small note cards. Next, at your local scrapbooking store, like Archiver’s or Michael’s, browse the aisles for fun and festive patterned papers. One large 12 by 12 sheet should be more than enough paper to complete approximately 50 birth announcement cards. While visiting your local craft store, be sure to pick up pink or blue ribbon, lace, tiny white buttons and some all-purpose, clear drying, glue or adhesive.
Now, with a light strip of the glue, attach the ribbon onto the card about one inch or so from the top. Then, using a pencil trace a small dress form onto plain white card stock paper and cut it out. If you’re happy with the dress template proceed to trace it several times onto the decorative scrapbooking paper and then cut out the quantity you need to make your cards. For a boy birth announcement, simply sketch out a onesie template onto some cute blue patterned paper.
Glue the adorable dress onto the card, just below the pink ribbon, giving the appearance that it is hanging off of a clothesline. Next, embellish the dress with lace and buttons and then on a computer, print out girly phrases like: sugar and spice and all things nice, princess in training or diva. For a more personalized touch, print something like: welcome baby Adyson or introducing baby Adyson.
Now, on the inside of your homemade birth announcement, simply attach your favorite photo along with the new bundle’s important statistics such as: name, date of birth, height, weight, etc.
The best part about these darling hand made birth announcements is that you can also use them as thank you notes or even birthday invitations simply by changing the wordage. And they make a practical and innovative baby shower gift for any busy, expectant mother.
