We started in Australia, my wife and I had spent time there with my family and we were ready to return to the USA. When we arrived in Adelaide Airport about 5am, we walked up to the desk to check in for our flight and check our luggage. We had four bags between us, only to be told that the limit on this flight was one per person, I was told on the phone that we could take two a piece, but apparently I was told wrong. So we had to go through our bags in the middle of the air port deciding what to take now and what to leave and have mailed. Thankfully my mother had come to the airport with us, and she was happy to take our extra luggage and mail it later. We had to leave a lot of the souvenirs we had collected on the trip, which upset us both.
We returned to the desk and I was informed that I couldn’t fly to USA with-out a visa or a return flight, as I hadn’t organized my citizenship or visa because we had only decided to move to USA a couple of weeks earlier. So I had to book a 500 dollar flight out of USA to Canada so we could leave. After that we were both thinking hopefully that’s it for the trip and the rest should be smooth sailing. We said our goodbyes and boarded the plane, on the way to Sydney. We landed in Sydney and got called to the booking desk, and we were informed that I had booked a flight out of USA to Canada and that’s not good enough. I had to book a return flight. After some stressing out I called my travel agent, she informed me that it was her fault she should have told me this and helped me out. She booked me a flight back to Australia and it cost me a thousand dollars, not overly impressed we headed to our plane. We were now late for our flight, so we ran to the gates only to be stopped at the gates because my wife had stayed in Australia for 2 days longer than her visa had aloud. After a short lecture about the rules and that she had to re-apply for her visa before returning. We got to our plane late and made the flight late made me feel real bad and stressed my wife out a little.
We had a 3 hour layover in Taipei it was long and we weren’t sure if we could eat the food so we ate from a vending machines, chips and bottled water. We landed in LA really late and the airport was crazy. Our flight to Reno wasn’t until the morning, so we stayed at a hotel for the night. Our shuttle driver for the hotel was a little crazy and driving like a mad man, and to add to my discomfort my seat belt was broken. I was mad but managed to hold my tongue and grab our things and try to sleep for 3-4 hours before going back to the airport. Our flight was 4 flights Adelaide, Sydney, Taipei, LA and finally Reno. We would meet my wife’s parents in Reno and they would drive us home. All and all not tragic but incredibly stressful but were happy living in USA now and I’m on the way to becoming a citizen.
