The top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide roll into Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks in a Southeastern Conference clash with national implications. Both teams are coming off tremendous wins last week for different reasons. Alabama crushed Duke 62-13 while Arkansas beat a good Georgia team 31-24. In terms of the Southeastern Conference, this early season game may determine who spends time at the top of the standings. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 Eastern Time, 2:30 local time, and is a must win for either team to try to get into a BCS bowl game.
Alabama has a 10-8 record against Arkansas in this hard-fought series that produces good games every time. Alabama has taken three in row and four of the last five including a 35-7 rout in Tuscaloosa last year. Things look to be different this time around as the Crimson Tide comes to Arkansas in a nationally televised game on CBS. It’s time to separate the men from the boys in the Southeastern Conference and it’s only four weeks into the season.
The next game doesn’t get any easier for both teams. Alabama hosts Florida in another must-win game next week. Arkansas goes to College Station to play Texas A&M on October 9th. If the Southeastern Conference wants to keep its luster the Arkansas-Alabama game could be a preview of good things to come during Bowl season in January.
Today’s game marks the first time two top ten teams have played in Fayetteville since 1979 which is probably why the game has been sold out for weeks. Arkansas relies on the pass as they are ranked fourth in passing yards. Alabama has been eating up turf on the ground as well as passing in the air but against somewhat weaker competition so far.
Despite already playing one good team each, this game is the time for both Arkansas and Alabama to step up and see who’s boss. This will by far be the most entertaining game of college football this weekend.
