An Amber Alert has been issued by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office after the report of an abduction of a 2-year-old girl in East Lynne, Missouri. Few details are known about the kidnapping but authorities said that the alleged abductor of Syah D. Duffey was unknown to the mother of the child.
Cpl. Kevin Tieman of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office told KMBC that Syah Duffey was taken at 8:30 a.m. Tieman said that the unknown woman had used a ruse to enter the house, took the 2-year-old from her mother, and left. The mother is said to have offered no resistance.
Police were called to the scene at roughly an hour and a half after the little girl was taken. No explanation has been offered as to why it took the mother such a lengthy period of time to notify authorities.
Tieman told KMBC that police were still attempting to determine how the woman was able to enter the home and take the child. He also noted that a family abduction had not been ruled out.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office issued an Amber Alert after ascertaining that an abduction had taken place.
The Sheriff’s Office described the abductor’s vehicles as a dirty, white, older model van. The vehicle’s license plates were from Iowa, but the number was not obtained. The woman who allegedly kidnapped the child was described as white, heavy-set, perhaps in her 20s or 30s. Syah Duffey’s mother, according to police was unable to identify the woman and her name remains unknown. She was last seen wearing a gray sweater and blue jeans.
Syah Duffey was wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt and blue jeans when she was taken. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She weighs about 30 pounds.
Sheriff’s deputy Tiemann noted that authorities in Missouri and Iowa had been notified to be on the lookout for the child and the van. Because of the Iowa license plates, the van, he said, might be headed in that direction.
East Lynne is located slightly southeast of Kansas City and about 200 miles south of the Iowa border.
Anyone having information concerning the abduction or the whereabouts of Syah Duffey and/or the suspected kidnapper are urged to call 911 to contact the nearest law enforcement agency or call the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 816-380-5200.
