When it was time to find a hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I made reservations at the Lamplighter Inn of Santa Fe. This is a motel by Americas Best Value Inn Hotel. They say hotel, but no way could you call it that when you see it. The price was $77/per night. At this price, I expect nice, but nothing perfect. I didn’t even get close to nice.
When I pulled up, I thought really is this the place? You had to go into the rooms from the outside and it all just looked run down. I went in and thought well I will give it a chance. I checked in and the little entry way area was nice. The man checking me in was very polite so I just went with it and decided to try it out.
Once we found out our room, he immediately got a phone call. He had me wait a second and said wait I have to switch you rooms. He gave me a key to a different room and we were on our way. We had to go back out on the street and park in the back to get to our room. As we were walking up to it, there were a lot of people running around and being noisy. We walked into the room and I was not happy. It was so small you could feel cramped in there. It had two beds which they said were queen, but appeared to be doubles to me. I sat down on one and it was very uncomfortable. The TV was very small and an old version. I went into the bathroom and it had chipped tile by the sink. The bathtub/shower was extremely small and not deep at all. It was a weird orange color that reminded me of the 1970s. It was chipped as well in many places. I never even turned it on to see how it worked.
Next I thought well I will see how the pool and stuff is because I am curious. The pool had a retractable roof over it. This roof really didn’t look like it could move, but they said it would when I asked about it on the phone. It was partially covering the pool so it was not getting any sun into it. They told me it was heated, but when I stuck my foot in it was freezing cold. The way the roof was made this pool needed to be heated since the sun could not warm it.
Next I went into what they called their “Rec Room.” It had a really old trashy ping pong table along with the stuff to play the game. It also had one workout machine, but I don’t even remember what it was that was in the room. They also had a small area that said it was for breakfast. I will admit this looked nice, but I did not stay long enough to find out.
I decided that there was no way I was staying here. I went to the front desk and explained that I was not happy with the room. The guy working the desk was a college age male and he was very polite. He said it is not for everyone and did not argue. He even showed me on his screen where I would receive no charge at all for my stay. I then left this motel and went to find a better one. I ended up with an amazing room which I will post a review of as well at the Residence Inn by Marriott.
