Michael Grimm was the most surprised person in the house when it was announced that he was the winner of the 2010 Americas’s Got Talent show. While waiting for the final word, he had the resigned look of an also-ran. I loved the way he bent down to Jackie Evancho to make sure she was all right with the result. She took it like the professional she is. Both of these wonderful personalities have bright futures in the entertainment field. I personally am happy with the outcome.
Michael’s performances remind me of my favorite singers of the past – Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Nat King Cole. They sang love songs we could relate to. Michael has that “je ne sais quoi” which puts him in that category. His new Soul CD entitled Leave Your Hat On was released on July 20, 2010 and I intend to buy it.
By coming in first, Michael has won a million dollars and will be the headliner of his own show in Las Vegas. Michael wants to help his grandparents who raised him and who lost everything when Katrina hit New Orleans. It couldn’t happen to a nicer person.
Jackie Evancho, even at ten years of age, seemed destined right from the start to win this competition. Her performance seemed to overwhelm every other act that was presented. She has the voice of an angel. She is incredibly gifted and has a sweet personality along with her talent. There were many naysayers who felt that she was too young to win the big prize, that Las Vegas would not be the right venue for her, and perhaps they are right. However, we haven’t heard the last of Jackie. I for one will look for her on the entertainment pages.
Fighting Gravity were extremely disappointed when they came in third on the final night. Rightly so – their act is something we don’t see every day and is the perfect routine for a Las Vegas showpiece. They were all heart and performed unimaginable feats. They have had great success in the past and America’s Got Talent gave them exposure they couldn’t have received anywhere else. They have a lot to be proud of.
I really enjoyed Prince Poppycock, otherwise known as John Quale. He is a great showman and it was a pleasure to see him back week after week. Even though he came in fourth on America’s Got Talent, I expect he will be picked up by a Las Vegas Resort to be a headliner.
