The moment we’ve all been waiting for on America’s Got Talent is finally here. The Top four contestants gave their final performances last night, and tonight the winner will be announced.
At the beginning of America’s Got Talent, each of the judges said that they expected a “million dollar performance” from each of the contestants. This put the pressure on right from the start.
Last night’s performances had two so-so acts and two stunning acts. It’s going to be interesting to see how America votes. As I mentioned in a previous article, is America going to vote on popularity, performance, or which act fits best in Las Vegas? The final results will probably consist of all of these.
I will let you know my choice for the winner among America’s Got Talent contestants at the end of this article. I think it’s going to be close, and may even be surprising.
America’s Got Talent began with Prince Poppycock. Prince Poppycock chose to perform a more serious act than his usual lively performance and he was actually “buzzed” by judge Piers Morgan. For those of you who don’t watch America’s Got Talent, buzzing is not a good thing. Although Prince Poppycock’s act was flawless, Piers felt that the act was too serious and not fun. Judge Sharon Osbourne disagreed with that, and Judge Howie Mandel wondered if America would still embrace a more serious Prince Poppycock. Prince Poppycock will probably pick up some sympathy votes, but will it be enough to win?
Next up on America’s Got Talent was singer Michael Grimm. Grimm is one of this season’s best contestants and very popular among America’s Got Talent viewers. All of his performances have been flawless, including his final performance. He sang a fabulous rendition of “When A Man Loves A Woman,” and all the judges felt it was a “million dollar” performance. Grimm’s raspy, soulful sound was perfect for this classic, and I just can’t wait until he releases a CD. Grimm is the one contestant who I feel may have a chance to win this competition over Jackie Evancho. A standing ovation by the judges and the audience was well deserved.
Jackie Evancho was the third performance of the evening on America’s Got Talent. Jackie is another contestant who has had flawless performances. She has stunned everyone who has listened to her, and she did that again last night on America’s Got Talent. Her choice of song was outstanding and as she hit every note in “Ave Maria,” it was clear that USA’s little darlin’ has an incredible range in her voice at such a young age.
Judge Piers Morgan explained that the “point of this show is to find undiscovered talent,” and he compared Jackie Evancho to no one. Judge Howie Mandel, with his sense of humor, said that he envisions an angel like Jackie singing to him just before death. Her final performance is going to be tough to beat.
Last up in the line-up on America’s Got Talent was Fighting Gravity. This group of former college students seems to have lost their fizzle. They had two mistakes during their performance and, even without the mistakes, their performance was not the best. Both mistakes came in the final seconds of the act. If you’re going to watch one of the videos on the Internet, the first mistake came about 10 seconds before the end. One of the men dressed in red actually took his suit off before the light faded on him, so his undressing was visible. The second mistake came at the very end when a bright white light was shining on the men dressed in blue, and you could see the back-up performer behind one of the blue men. Regardless of how the voting goes, Fighting Gravity is a definite Las Vegas-type act and will probably have their own show at some point in Las Vegas.
No matter what the outcome of tonight’s voting is, these Top 4 contestants on America’s Got Talent are winners, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing about their successes in years to come.
Who do I think will be the next millionaire on America’s Got Talent? I think it’s going to come down to Michael Grimm or Jackie Evancho. Both have performed flawlessly, both are very popular, and both are a joy to listen to. The “Wow” factor has been there and they both deserve to win. However, if you remember when Susan Boyle was one of the finalists on Britain’s version of American Idol, she was the favorite to win throughout that whole competition, and when the final votes were tallied, she came in second. Will this happen to Jackie Evancho? We’ll find out tonight.
