We only have one more week till the end of Season 5 on ‘America’s Got Talent’. It’s hard to believe we are actually at this point now. The results show was typical of the same old usual stuff such as the predictable results, standard entertainment from a live show in Vegas or Broadway and the latest hit single from the hottest artist around. The Broadway cast from the hit show “American Idiot” is based on Green Day’s concept album of the same name. They gave us two musical production numbers. Sarah McLachlan played the piano singing “Forgiveness”.
Michael Grasso and Prince Poppycock
The first two acts were called out and I wasn’t sure how this was going to pan out. I was hoping both of them would go through. At first I thought they can’t have two opera singers in the Top 4, because you know Jackie Evancho is absolutely going to the final round. As it turned out it was Prince Poppycock who was the first act to be in the Top 4.
“American Idiot” by Green Day Broadway cast
Broadway came once again to ‘America’s Got Talent’ and here was a sneak preview of the show “American Idiot”. I’ve seen parts of the show performed on the Tony Awards a few months ago. This is not a musical I would go to see quite frankly. If you are a fan of Green Day’s then it’s the show of a lifetime.
Michael Grimm and Taylor Matthews
This certainly was the first no-brainer of the night on who was absolutely going through. The blues man himself, Michael Grimm. His style of singing reminds me so much of Joe Cocker.
She only sang her latest release “Forgiveness” while at the piano. Afterwards, Nick asked Sarah what advice she could give the contestants to combat their nerves. She said to take deep breaths and do some exercises. That is good advice.
Jeremy VanSchoonhoven and Christine & Ali
When Nick called them out to the stage I thought it would be Jeremy for sure. Then I realized that would only leave one pick left and that will be Jackie, so something different is going to happen. None of them went through. I could tell Jeremy was very surprised by the result.
Jackie Evancho and Anna & Patryck
Here was the second obvious no-brainer on who was joining Prince Poppycock and Michael Grimm at stage left. Of course I wanted to see Anna & Patryck, but I have a feeling we’ll see them sometime soon on “Dancing with the Stars” maybe for the upcoming season that is to start on September 20th. Jackie Evancho definitely has a good chance of winning ‘America’s Got Talent’ next week.
Fighting Gravity and Studio One Young Beasts Society
There was no judge’s choice for the last two. Quite frankly, I had no idea who it was going to be. My favorites to go through were Fighting Gravity and so it was. I was thrilled to now see them in the Top 4 even though I was not impressed with their performance Tuesday night. However, I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do for the last time next week.
Vocalists out number the variety act three to one. The other day I realized why there are so many vocalists in the finals for ‘America’s Got Talent’ every season. Las Vegas has always been home first and foremost to singers of all styles and genres followed by magicians and other variety acts. Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack ruled the strip and it’s been that way ever since. More than likely the odds on favorite right now is Jackie Evancho. Yet it’s too obvious, so it could be Prince Poppycock who has a big following on Facebook with over 29,000 fans. When I watched Prince Poppycock’s American musical tribute I realized he is the Liberace of Vegas, minus the fact he does not play the piano, but is a classical singer. Las Vegas needs another Liberace.
