Soon high school students will start frantically making application to the colleges of their choice. Some have already begun the process. Part of that process involves taking SAT tests. An article entitled, Free Test Prep Help Kids Dream Big was in the October 11, 2010 edition of People Magazine. It was written by Zara Kessler and Jennifer Wren.
Jason Shah, is a 21 year old senior at Harvard University. He is doing his part in helping students in the process. He developed a program called INeedAPencil.com. I think the name is quite clever. It offers free online help for students preparing for the SAT.
This seed was planted in his mind after visiting a low-income school in 2007. What he saw touched his heart and prompted him to do something. He got busy. According to the article, “he raised $10,000 in seed money and contracted with tutors to develop hundreds of math, reading and writing problems”.
Because of this endeavor thousands of students have utilized the site resulting in increased test scores. They happily attest to this fact. According to Leandrew Robinson, “It gives low income students tremendous power”. She should know as she formerly ran college prep program in Berkeley, CA.
Young people today will be our future leaders of tomorrow. Jason Shah you are leading the way in what you have done. Kudos to you.
And because of this you are selected as Today’s American Hero. What a breath of fresh air you are. Thanks!!
