My heart is always warmed when I see or hear of senior citizens accomplishing life-long ambitions. Such is the case of Neerma Ponder Williams. In an article titled, 81-year old celebrates high school graduation, is a brief snippet of this amazing woman. It was written by Melissa Robinson.
According to the article, “Neerma Ponder Williams has accomplished many things in her life. She has raised a wonderful family including well-rounded children who all went on to successful careers. She is a pillar of the community and has held several positions in her church”.
In August of this year, Ms. Williams became a recipient of a long-sought after GED. Although it took ten years to realize this goal she kept her eyes on the prize.
In 1945 she had just completed the ninth grade. She then married Robert N. Williams and raised a family with him. Throughout her life she had been very active in church, family and community events. Ms. Williams loves to serve people. Because of that it took her 10 years to reach this educational pinnacle.
While studying for her GED she received many awards and plaudits.
In April she and her husband celebrated 65 years of marriage. Her next goal is to take a Bible course and pursue additional academic endeavors.
And because of her steadfast determination and unending perseverance, I gladly honor Neerma Ponder Williams as today’s American Shero. You go girl!!
