Can you imagine the devastation a child goes through when a parent is in jail? No doubt loneliness, embarrassment and despair are something that they deal with on a regular basis.
50 year old Lisa Anderson of Newport Beach, California has some idea what it feels like. Her father served time in and out of jail for almost half of her life.
She’s making a difference in the life of an 11 year old girl that she is mentoring. According to an article in the April 2010 Ladies Home Journal she says, “I spend about two hours a week with an 11-year-old whose father is in jail. We go to the beach, hit the zoo, get manicures together or see a movie. Sometimes we just hang out: She loves to eat and play Hangman”.
She admits that there are sometimes challenges in getting together for various reasons. But she is committed to her young mentoree.
You are playing such an important role in a young girl’s life. With your presence, there’s no telling what heights she will attain.
And because of this, Lisa Anderson, you are my choice for Today’s American Shero.
