Uyladia Jarmon-Colly is a 35 year old mother living in Atlanta, Georgia. She is one of the many unemployed who chooses to help others out in spite of her lack of work. She works with homeless teens.
According to the Ladies Home Journal she says, “I’m involved with a program that provides assistance for kids who are living on the street. I walk around at night looking for young people who are sleeping in parks, passageways or bus depots and I try to make sure they get the services they need”.
A friend of hers who works in the program got her involved too. She recognizes that the needs are great for so many of these young people. While they can’t meet all the needs they hone in on the immediate ones first. Their first priority is getting them off the streets.
When you read something like this, it makes you realize that there is always someone that is worse off than you. Uyladia knows that she is blessed and wants to be a blessing to others.
And because of your unrelenting effort in fighting teen homelessness, I announce you as Today’s American Shero. You are making a definite difference in the lives of so many young people.
