While I am not one to write about cars, I wrote this when I was doing ghost writing, but the opportunity to submit the article or publish it elsewhere did not appear. Thus, I am publishing it here.
The 2008 Mercedes-Benz M class is a mid size luxury sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). It has been the top SUV for years and when competitors come out with something that can compare to the latest model, Mercedes-Benz responds with constant improvement. For a long time the design of the M class was not changed.
However, the M class was redesigned in 2006, so there are no major changes (thought there are a few) to the 2008 model. However, there is new standard equipment. The engines available are diesel engines. There is an option of having a 503 horsepower engine for high performance. However, this means that the car uses a lot of gas. There is also a 221 horsepower engine available that does not use as much gas. The transmission in the M class is seven (7) speed.
The 2008 Mercedes-Benz M class comes with four wheel drive, 17 inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, power adjustable front seats, and an eight speaker CD stereo that also has auxiliary ports for MP3 players. Upgrades and extras that are available are 19 inch wheels, a surround sound audio system, DVD based navigation, a rear seat entertainment system, a sunroof, and Keyless Go (meaning that the car can be unlocked, locked, and started with just the press of a button).
As always, with Mercedes-Benz models, important safety features are included with the M class. Front, side, and overhead airbags are included for the front and rear seats. Also included are anti-lock brakes, Brake Assist, traction and stability control, and a hill ascent and descent control. Standard safety features also now include PRO-SAFE and NECK-PRO head restraints.
The four wheel drive system is great for all kinds of weather. However, for those drivers who want to go off road, the Off Road package should be bought. It includes a two (2) speed transfer case with low range, height adjustable air suspension, and differential locks.
The ride quality is very light. Yet, it is also sure footed. It can also be made plush and responsive with the optional air spring suspension. The seats are multi contour and have plenty of leg room and sitting space.
The sportiness of the 2008 M class SUV can be seen from the exterior design. There is an all new front end design with horizontal lines. The radiator grille has three black slanted openings and chrome highlights. The headlights have a new look and are projection beam. The exterior mirrors have a larger mirror surface. The rear bumper has been redesigned. The taillights have darkened lenses, but are also available in LED lights with clear lenses. The tail pipes are ovular and the M class has a dual exhaust system. There’s a load sill guard on the rear bumper. To complete the sporty look, there’s chrome trim in the rub strips and waistline trim.
Inside the 2008 Mercedes-Benz M class, there is a leather trimmed dashboard. This is either nappa leather or ARTICO man made leather. The door linings are ARTICO man made leather. The steering wheel is also has a leather cover. It is a four spoke design with shift paddles. There are also three types of wood trim available: burr walnut, poplar with a bird’s eye look, or poplar in anthracite.
The 2008 M class also comes with plenty of infotainment. It has the COMAND system. This comes with APS including hard disc navigation, Music Register, and voice operated control. The system also has a large color display and other added features. There is also a universal media interface for connecting iPods and other audio devices. The rear seat has an entertainment system with large color screens and wireless headphones.
The surround sound system uses twelve speakers and is an at output of 610 watts for a crisp and clear sound. In order for the operation of many of these infotainment devices, the LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system is included.
With all of these features, the M class is light and easy to handle. It has plenty of cargo room for storing items while traveling. It is the perfect SUV for those who are constantly on the go. The infotainment system does wonders for music lovers. The rear seat entertainment system helps to keep children occupied even during short trips.
