Eden had always loved life. She smiled and gave thanks, always, lots of endless support and love for those around her and to those whom she loved. She was in her late thirties and blessed, she felt. One night, she had a strange dream. She saw herself returning to her body, after a night of deep sleep. As she floated back to her body, she knew that something was wrong. She shouldn’t be seeing this, she thought. She grew afraid and in a flash of brilliant light, a man appeared to grab her and they both went into her still sleeping body. She woke up and seemed fine. What a very strange dream. It seemed real. Very real.
Eden was trying so hard to be happy. She was never blessed with children and her husband was certainly not the father figure type. He pursued his own dreams, wants and hobbies and she always tried to be there. Like she was supposed to. She loved him, still, she was not granted the same support by him. He thought her writing was trivial and actually, any love she had, music, health care, classes, social activities, well, they were all a waste of time, in his eyes. She devoted her world to him for almost fifteen long years. She saw her husband reach so many triumphs, in their eyes and she tried hard to be satisfied.
Still, in the night, he did not come to her in love. He often fell asleep on the couch. She could count on one hand the times he had actually kissed her. He never hugged her, never praised her and the loneliness did set in. As long as life was all his way, everything was fine. Well, she had learned to accept that. She couldn’t shake the feeling that the Lord would want her to be loved, totally happy and satisfied, too. Why wasn’t that returned to her? Pure love, a love of the heart. She wished for it.
She knew that she deserved it. So, one night, she went outside to cry. God forbid she should wake her husband with her petty needs. She had voiced them many times. Nothing. The still night was foggy and she heard a sound. A strange sort of bleating. She followed the sound through her yard, into the mist. She saw a golden lamb. He was so tiny, yet so very bright. He glowed with an unearthly light. He sadly cried and seemed to skip, falter and try to jump. The golden lamb looked back at her and then he grew huge white wings. He skipped, jumped and took flight into the night sky. She watched the golden lamb fly away and soon, he was gone. She felt at peace. A brilliant star was left in the sky, shining. She made just one wish. For happiness. Then, she knew what to do.
Eden went back inside of her house, packed a few precious things and went to her mother’s house. She got the message. It was from the Lord. All creatures, great and small need love. No need to live without it. Real love. Eden knew it. She left happily. She deserved the same love and support that she had to give. A pure and holy love, filled with respect and trust.
The Lord does answer our prayers in such strange ways and often, he seems to be saying to us, you should know this, already. You have to listen, see and believe. And a little lamb shall lead. Eden followed. Joyfully.
